Pilot cancer screening program already saving firefighter lives in New Hampshire

PHOTO: The owner of a home damaged by a fire in Lawrence Sunday night says the house was insured, and prayers for her cat that was trapped in the basement were answered. Lawrence Fire-Rescue Chief Craig Wagner told Action 2 News that the fire at a house near Lawrence Drive and Little Rapids Road near Lawrence has been extinguished and everybody in the house got out safely.

9-year-old dies, elderly woman critically injured in Milwaukee apartment fire

A 9-year-old girl is dead and an elderly woman is in critical condition following an apartment fire in Milwaukee on Sunday, Nov. 19. Authorities were called to Servite Drive and Wabash Court around 11:30 a.m. Upon arrival, they found smoke from the second floor of a two-story apartment building. Fire crews had to deal with extreme hoarding conditions.

Driver in West Allis heads to fire station with pet snake hiding in car, flat tire simultaneously

PHOTOS: Don’t you just hate it when you get a flat tire while your pet snake gets loose and is hiding somewhere in your car? Oh, that’s never happened to you? Well, that is exactly what happened to a driver in Wisconsin on Saturday, so he headed to the nearest fire station for help. A Facebook post from the West Allis Fire Department states that on November 11, a man showed up at the station saying his tire was low on air and that his pet ball python was hiding somewhere in his car.

Portage County firefighters and law enforcement officers honor veterans with new monument

Since 2014, firefighters and law enforcement officers from the city and across the county have gotten together to raise money to help veterans from all branches of the service. On Monday, they will reveal a veterans' memorial purchased through their fundraising efforts. At noon Monday, officials will unveil the $90,000 memorial, paid for by nine local sponsors, according to a news release sent by Portage County Sheriff Mike Lukas.

Farming equipment to blame after fire burns four acres in Schleswig

Authorities in Manitowoc County are blaming farming equipment as the cause of a four-acre fire on Thursday afternoon. According to Kiel Fire & Rescue, firefighters were sent to the intersection of County Road X and Wilke Lake Road in the Town of Schleswig for a half-acre of cornfield on fire. Upon arrival, fire crews found three acres of cornfield and a wooded area on fire.

Madison Fire Department: Ambulance damaged after driver backs into it on I-90

A driver damaged an ambulance Thursday morning after reversing and hitting the emergency vehicle while they were both pulled over on the interstate, Madison Fire Department reported. MFD explained the ambulance pulled up behind the vehicle stopped on I-90 eastbound around 5:15 a.m., noting it had its emergency lights on.

Firefighters spent nearly three hours battling an extra-alarm fire that started Thursday morning at a warehouse in the Back of the Yards neighborhood. The fire started at a warehouse at the Evans Food Group processing plant near 41st and Halsted around 8:30 a.m. Chicago Fire Department officials said the fire was later raised to a 3-11 alarm, bringing in extra crews to fight the flames.

'I feel loved': Brookfield firefighter goes home nearly two months after car crash

VIDEO: For nearly two months, Adam Yaresh, a Brookfield firefighter has been in the hospital after a scary car crash. On Wednesday, he made a major milestone with his loved ones right by his side. The doors at Froedtert Bluemound Rehabilitation Hospital opened and a new chapter of Yaresh's life began.
