California SWAT standoff comes to a deadly end after suspect's home burns down

VIDEO: A SWAT standoff turned into a fiery inferno after the suspect's Upland home burst into flames after a gunfight Monday night. The deadly shootout started around 3:15 p.m. when deputies tried to serve a search warrant at the suspect's home between North Benson Avenue and North Mountain Avenue, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department.

Pilot killed in fiery plane crash in north Texas shopping center parking lot

VIDEO: A pilot was killed after a small plane crashed into a shopping center parking lot at a Texas shopping center on Tuesday, authorities said. Police in Plano, 20 miles north of Dallas, said the aircraft crashed directly outside a nail salon and Mama's Daughter's Diner, just before 6 p.m. "The pilot unfortunately lost their life in the tragic accident," police said in a statement on X.

The number of fatal traffic crashes over the Thanksgiving holiday rose by 24% in the two years after the COVID-19 outbreak, hitting the highest level since 2007, as more people chose to avoid air travel on what is traditionally the busiest travel holiday of the year.

Window washer hurt in downtown Madison fall

A window washer fell through a rooftop grate Monday morning while working in downtown Madison, according to the fire department. In a statement, the Madison Fire Department indicated the grate was dislodged, and the worker dropped about 15 feet before hitting the floor below. Follow Up: Veterans Memorial Dedicated in Stevens Point

PHOTO: A new Veterans Memorial was dedicated in Stevens Point on Monday. The Guns N’ Hoses of Portage County helped commission the $90,000 stone memorial which features logos of five of the six branches of the armed forces. The center stone is flanked by two smaller stones that feature a kneeling firefighter and police officer, which organizer Traci Tauferner says is designed to extend the Guns N’ Hoses message of first responders supporting Vets beyond their annual September softball game.

Fire damages Fond du Lac home

PHOTO: At 12:53 AM Sunday, November 19, 2023, the Fond du Lac Fire/Rescue and City of Fond du Lac Police were dispatched to a house on fire at 120 east 2nd Street. Upon arrival, smoke and flames could be seen coming from the back of the house. Fire crews made a quick knock down of the flames and made entry to check for any extension to the attic space.

None injured in Merrill house fire

A house fire broke out in Merrill. At around 12:29 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 19, the Merrill Fire Department (FD) responded to a fire at 500 East St. Merrill Police arrived first on the scene and had blocked the road, accompanied by the residents of the house who escaped the fire. Merrill FD trucks immediately noticed visible smoke coming from the area while leaving the station.

VIDEO: Large fire envelops abandoned motel in North Carolina

An abandoned motel went up in flames in Gastonia Monday night. Authorities on the scene say the blaze started as a call for a dumpster fire in the 500 block of Cox Road around 8 p.m. on Nov. 20. But when firefighters from the Gastonia Fire Department arrived, they saw the flames shooting in the air and upgraded it to a commercial fire.

Navy aircraft overshoots Marine Corps Base Hawaii runway, ends up in bay; 9 crew members safe

VIDEO/PHOTOS: Emergency crews responded to Marine Corps Base Hawaii (MCBH) after a US Navy jet overshot the runway and ended up in Kaneohe Bay, military officials said. The Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) sent out the initial alert just after 2 p.m. for a "probable aircraft fire incident." According to a spokesperson at MCBH, a US Navy P-8A Poseidon aircraft was landing at the base when it overshot the landing field and landed in the Bay.

Driver in West Allis heads to fire station with pet snake hiding in car, flat tire simultaneously

PHOTOS: Don’t you just hate it when you get a flat tire while your pet snake gets loose and is hiding somewhere in your car? Oh, that’s never happened to you? Well, that is exactly what happened to a driver in Wisconsin on Saturday, so he headed to the nearest fire station for help. A Facebook post from the West Allis Fire Department states that on November 11, a man showed up at the station saying his tire was low on air and that his pet ball python was hiding somewhere in his car.
