An initiative led by Indiana University is pushing the boundaries of technology to save first responders’ lives and expedite emergency response.
A collaboration between the IU Luddy School of Informatics, Computing and Engineering and University Information Technology Services, the Crisis Technologies Innovation Lab is facilitating private investment and entrepreneurship activity in technology that provides first responders’ precise locations inside structures during a crisis and while locating survivors.

Residents of a Madison duplex were left without a home for a night after carbon monoxide levels in their basement reached almost fatal levels.
The Madison Fire Department says people living on the 600 block of North St. on the city’s near east side called in describing symptoms typical with carbon monoxide exposure.

PHOTOS: A raging 5-alarm fire raced through a row of Bronx businesses early Wednesday morning, leaving at least one person injured.
The blaze broke out at Bunny’s Deli Cold Cut City at West 231st Street and Broadway in the Kingsbridge section just before 3:30 am, the FDNY said.
Two dozen videos uploaded to Citizen App showed huge flames and plumes of thick black smoke shooting into the air, and a crowd of firefighters battling the inferno both from the street level and from tower ladders.

VIDEO: More than 350 families of fallen first responders are taking part in a healing retreat at Walt Disney World Resort.
The gathering was part of the Gary Sinise Foundation’s annual Snowball Express event, which has been held since 2018 for families of fallen U.S. military heroes.
The expansion to a second week focused on first responders and was one of the largest gatherings of the community to date, organizers said.

Two firefighters were injured while battling flames that engulfed a yacht club that has been a local landmark in Marina del Rey for decades.
The fire was reported around 11:30 p.m. Monday at the California Yacht Club on Admiralty Way, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
Fire crews arrived on scene to heavy fire and smoke billowing from the building, and it was quickly upgraded to a 2nd alarm fire before it was eventually extinguished.

There was a large fire at an abandoned school building early Sunday in Gary, Indiana.
Firefighters worked through the night to put out a massive blaze at the old Ralph Waldo Emerson High School. The fire comes months after a similar fire tore through the building.

Sandy Springs firefighters came up with the plan. Rappel off the top of the hospital and spread a little joy on their way down. As they lowered themselves, they stopped and waved to patients on the other side of the glass.
