Members of the Sparta Area Fire District spent a good part of the day responding to three fires on Tuesday.
Fire Chief Mike Arnold said the first call came in at 11:31 a.m. for a report of a forest fire on Airedale Avenue.
He said that a landowner was using a torch while working on some farm machinery when he accidentally started some dry vegetation on fire.

VIDEO: First responders described the scene of the deadly crash on I-70 Tuesday as something they have never experienced before and something they hope to never experience again.
They said those hours were filled with tough decisions. Several witnesses called 911 to alert them of the crash. One of the 911 calls came from a woman who was riding on the charter bus filled with more than 50 students and chaperones from Tusky Valley schools.

Wood-burning equipment is the likely cause of a house fire in the Town of Lincoln in Kewaunee County Tuesday night.
The Luxemburg Community Fire Department was dispatched to the blaze on County Road C just after 7 p.m. to the report of a house fire with flames showing. The call was immediately upgraded to a multiple-alarm fire, triggering a response from the Casco, Brussels-Union-Gardner, New Franken, and Algoma Fire Departments.

Fire-rescue crews saved a hunter who got lost and stuck in a swampy part of Jefferson County.
The Johnson Creek Fire Department says crews were called to County Trunk Y near Emerald Drive in Watertown Township around 5:30 p.m. Monday. The caller reported an elderly man had become disoriented while deer hunting and found himself trapped about one mile from the road.

Authorities say smoking materials were the cause of a porch fire on Tuesday night in Fond du Lac.
According to a release from the Fond Du Lac Fire Rescue, crews responded at 10:21 p.m. to the back porch of a home on 123 West McWilliams Street for a reported fire.
Officials say both smoke and fire coming from the wooden porch when they arrived on the scene.

The Tri-State Tollway was mired in a traffic nightmare during the evening rush Tuesday, after a semi-trailer truck hauling cars sparked a huge fire on the Tri-State Tollway in southwest suburban Willow Springs.
As CBS 2's Charlie De Mar reported, traffic was very slow through the night along northbound I-294 near the scene.

VIDEO: On Nov. 11, firefighters in Benton County discovered a Dodge brush fire truck from inside the firehouse on E. Highway 94 in Monte Ne had been stolen. They’re unable to broadcast messages to go along with the siren.

VIDEO: Aurora Fire Rescue crew members are completing de-escalation training to help crew members respond to people experiencing a crisis. Despite paramedics regularly responding to these types of calls, de-escalation training is pretty rare within fire departments.
“I’ve been doing this for 34 years and it’s nothing we’ve ever formally done, and it seems like the right time and place to bring this to life,” said Aurora Fire Rescue’s training chief, Commander Mark Hays.

A fire broke out at Shark's Fish and Chicken, located near 60th and Villard in Milwaukee, causing significant damage to the building, according to the Milwaukee Fire Dept.
MFD tells CBS 58 that they responded early Monday to the fire, which initially began inside the restaurant. Officials also note that the structure might not be salvageable due to the extent of the damage.
