Members of the Sparta Area Fire District spent a good part of the day responding to three fires on Tuesday. Fire Chief Mike Arnold said the first call came in at 11:31 a.m. for a report of a forest fire on Airedale Avenue. He said that a landowner was using a torch while working on some farm machinery when he accidentally started some dry vegetation on fire.

Wood-burning equipment is the likely cause of a house fire in the Town of Lincoln in Kewaunee County Tuesday night. Fire-rescue crews saved a hunter who got lost and stuck in a swampy part of Jefferson County. The Johnson Creek Fire Department says crews were called to County Trunk Y near Emerald Drive in Watertown Township around 5:30 p.m. Monday. The caller reported an elderly man had become disoriented while deer hunting and found himself trapped about one mile from the road.

Authorities say smoking materials were the cause of a porch fire on Tuesday night in Fond du Lac. According to a release from the Fond Du Lac Fire Rescue, crews responded at 10:21 p.m. to the back porch of a home on 123 West McWilliams Street for a reported fire. Officials say both smoke and fire coming from the wooden porch when they arrived on the scene.
