Over the weekend, a fire involving lithium-ion batteries lit up a warehouse in Brooklyn where hundreds of e-bikes and other mobility devices were being stored.
The New York City Council is now trying to tackle the problem from a different approach - by going after third-party delivery companies. As the crisis from lithium-ion battery fires continues to swell, officials say it's time delivery companies share responsibility.

One Beaver Dam firefighter was injured Monday evening after reports of a fire in the town of Westford.
The Beaver Dam Fire Department responded right after they received the call at 6:13 p.m. and requested help from multiple surrounding departments.
After putting out the fire, crews searched for potential occupants in the building but they did not find anyone.

VIDEO: The La Crosse Fire Department responded to a house fire on Saturday night.
According to the LCFD, firefighters responded to the 2500 block of Harvey St. around 10:15 p.m. after hearing reports of a possible house fire.
There was heavy smoke coming from the basement and the back of the home.
The fire was contained to the basement area and crews were able to put it out quickly.

Janesville Fire Department could see some extra city cash slide its way to help run fire department employees through needed paramedic training.
Deputy Fire Chief John McManus says Janesville’s Fire Department is not shorthanded on paramedics, at least not now. But some recent hires have come aboard without paramedic certification, and the process of training and certifying them for paramedic duty takes those firefighters out of the picture.

A third person has died after a fiery three-vehicle crash involving a tanker truck on the Pennsylvania Turnpike.
It happened late Saturday morning in the northbound lanes of the Northeast Extension (I-476) in Worcester Twp. between the Mid-County and Lansdale exits.
Police say a vehicle was stopped in the right lane of the multi-lane highway due to a flat tire.

Lithium batteries typically aren't allowed in landfills, but many still make it into the garbage stream.
Exploding lithium-ion batteries are leading to more fires in Oregon’s landfills and recycling centers, prompting action from state and local governments.
Deschutes County Solid Waste Director Tim Brownell said his county’s landfill has seen 21 lithium-related fires in the past three months.

Fire Chief Mike Arnold said the call came in just before 7 a.m. for the fire at 406 North Court Street.
Heavy smoke and fire was coming from the back of the house and roof as crews arrived.
Chief Arnold said it took about 30 minutes to bring the fire under control.

VIDEO: A Kenosha man was arrested for arson after a boat fire at Racine's Reefpoint Marina Friday, Oct. 20.

Oklahoma has become the first state in the nation to require a work zone safety and first responder safety course for teen drivers. The law, set to take effect Nov. 1, 2023, will require all Oklahoma teens to complete the free Oklahoma Work Zone Safe and First Responder Safety online education course before applying for their intermediate driver license.
