Rhinelander fire crews gather for realistic fire training at donated house in Pine Lake

Firefighters in Rhinelander spent Monday night performing a fire training procedure at a house in Pine Lake. Members of Pine Lake Fire Rescue and the Rhinelander Fire Department trained on a house that was donated to them. The fire crews set up multiple scenarios for search and rescue inside the house while using their smoke machine, giving zero visibility.

Menomonie crew rescues dog from well

VIDEO: Crews rescued a dog last night that had fallen into a dry well in Menomonie. According to the Menomonie Fire Department, the dog’s owners called the Dunn County Sheriff’s Office at 8:50 p.m. to report that Rip had fallen into a well near their home on County Road BB. The sheriff’s office then called the fire department for help.

Sandy Hook survivors will graduate high school today and remember the classmates they lost in 1st grade massacre

Lightning likely caused fire, massive hole in roof of 11,000 square-foot mansion in Florida

Hurricane experts push forward with aggressive forecast despite slow start to season

VIDEO: The Atlantic hurricane season is still forecast to be extremely active this year despite a quiet start so far, according to the latest outlook released Tuesday by researchers at Colorado State University (CSU), where seasonal forecasts were pioneered 40 years ago. Dr. Phil Klotzbach, a senior research scientist at CSU, and his team are maintaining their original forecast from April that calls for 23 named storms, of which 11 would become hurricanes.

Recreational burn permits spark debate among Appleton, Oshkosh, Neenah, Menasha residents

Kayakers rescued in Barron County on Red Cedar River, sheriff points to life jackets as reason they were able to hang on

Two kayakers were saved this weekend by first responders and by the life jackets they were wearing. Barron County Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald said a 911 call came in at 12:30 p.m. Sunday for two people whose kayaks overturned on the Red Cedar River below the Mikana Dam. A Barron County Recreation Deputy and a Wisconsin DNR Warden were the first to arrive on scene, Fitzgerald said.

Racine garage total loss after fire; more than $30,000 in damages

An overnight fire caused significant damage to a Racine garage on Monday, June 10. According to the Racine Fire Department, just after 12:30 a.m., firefighters were called to the area of Yout and Green for a report of a garage fire. Crews arrived within four minutes and found the garage completely engulfed in flames.
