VIDEO: Large fire spreads in building on Chicago's West Side, second in 2 days

A large fire creating huge amounts of smoke broke out at a building on Chicago's West Side Wednesday evening, the second massive fire in the city within two days—and even within 24 hours. Fire crews sprayed water from multiple angles at the building in 2800 block of West Grand Avenue, near the intersection with California Avenue in the Humboldt Park neighborhood.

NFPA releases overview of fatal firefighter injuries in 2023

In 2023, 89 firefighters in the United States died from traumatic injuries, heart attacks, strokes, or aneurysms while on duty or within 24 hours of duty. This fatal injury count is a decrease over the 97 fatal injuries the previous year, but it is otherwise the second highest since 2013, during which there were 98 on-duty deaths.

New Mexico fire rescue agency hopes to adopt video platform to help with 911 calls

VIDEO: Video calls with 911 dispatchers may soon be a reality in Albuquerque. The city’s fire rescue agency is looking to launch a new online video platform that they hope will help free up firefighter paramedics in the field. “This would give our dispatchers the ability to actually see the patient on scene,” said AFR’s EMS Division Chief Chris Ortiz.

Bill to Support National Fire Prevention Efforts and Reauthorize AFG, SAFER Programs Sent to President’s Desk

S.870 incorporates language from H.R. 4090, the Fire Grants and Safety Act of 2023, introduced by Science Committee member Tom Kean (R-NJ). The bill will support and advance firefighter and first responder services across the nation, providing a five-year reauthorization for the U.

Door County Community Emergency Response Team class coming in July

You can be part of serving a new addition to Door County’s public safety when the unthinkable happens. The Gibraltar Fire Department is spearheading a Community Emergency Response Team that takes action when a natural disaster occurs in Door County. Madison camp inspires girls to seek careers in police, fire and EMS

Follow Up: Fire causes Milwaukee building to partially collapse

VIDEO: Milwaukee firefighters responded to a large building fire overnight on Milwaukee's south side. Crews were called to the area of Muskego Avenue and Mitchell Street just before 3 a.m. When firefighters arrived, flames could be seen shooting from the roof and windows of the building. "Upon initial company's arrival they found heavy smoke and fire coming from the second floor," said Deputy Chief Robert Hartung with the Milwaukee Fire Department.

Two people rescued from sinking boat on Lake Como

Authorities in southern Wisconsin rescued two people after a boat reportedly started sinking on a lake. According to the Lake Geneva Fire Department, on June 16 around 5 p.m., crews were sent to the north shore of Lake Como for a report of a sinking boat with people in the water. Multiple agencies, vehicles and responders got to the scene.

VIDEOS: Large fire engulfs vacant building in Georgia

A vacant building in northwest Atlanta caught fire late Monday afternoon, according to Atlanta fire officials. The fire was reported at 350 Troy St. NW, near Joseph E. Boone Boulevard NW. First Alert Chopper captured scenes of the massive fire, including most of the flames being put out. Atlanta fire officials said crews launched a “defensive fire attack,” which officials said is for when fire conditions prevent firefighters from getting inside a building.

Fire, EMS departments in North Texas adopt potentially life-saving app technology

Milwaukee Fire Department battles building blaze

VIDEO/PHOTO: A fire early Monday, June 17 at a building near Muskego and Mitchell led to a quick response from the Milwaukee Fire Department. Fire crews tell CBS 58 that the entire building was engulfed in flames, prompting a defensive approach to combat the fire. They say it took MFD around 45 minutes to get the flames under control.

Appleton Fire Department responds to industrial building fire

PHOTOS: A fire at Appleton's Pellet America caused more than $100,000 in damage to the building and its contents early Sunday morning. Calumet and Winnebago County authorities team up for rescue after boat takes on water

PHOTOS: Last Monday morning, a fiery rollover crash off state Route 210 in Little Cottonwood Canyon closed the road for hours. Witnesses didn’t think anyone could have survived the explosion, but one Unified police officer ran into the flames to make a daring rescue. A supervisor from the Unified Police Department identified officer Wilson from the Canyon Patrol Unit as the hero who rushed in to rescue a driver pinned in the burning semitruck.

17 Years Later: South Carolina fire department to honor 9 firefighters killed in Sofa Super Store fire

Heat dome brings potentially historic temperatures to most of the nation
