'Volunteer generation gap' delays response for emergency health care in rural Wisconsin

There is an urgent need for public safety workers in rural Wisconsin, according to state officials. Many rural rescue operations in Wisconsin are on the brink of shutting down due to a lack of staff and funding to keep going. It's the shortage is a problem that leaves our most vulnerable without enough emergency medical staff to help them when they need it most.

Officials investigate cause of fire in Mazomanie

Officials are working to determine the cause of a fire after it blazed through a Dane County residence Monday night. The Dane County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded around 7:40 p.m. to the fire on Appleby Circle in the Village of Mazomanie. Firefighters stated no one was home at the time of the fire in the single-occupancy home.

Semi-truck fire shuts down right lanes on I-39 SB near Beloit

VIDEO/PHOTOS: No injuries were reported Tuesday morning after a tractor-trailer erupted into flames along southbound I-39/90, outside of Beloit, the city’s fire department reported. In a Facebook post, the fire department shared photographs showing the still burning skeleton of the semi as firefighters continued getting it under control.

1 dead in Ashland house fire

One person died when an Ashland home went up in flames Monday night. According to the Ashland Fire Chief, crews got the call about the single-family house fire near 14th St. W. and Beaser Avenue around 10:27 p.m. Monday. Firefighters arrived five minutes later and had the fire, which was contained to one room, extinguished by 10:42 p.

Wisconsin Dells School District starting fire training in 2022-23

High school students in the Dells area will have fire training and certification available to them starting this fall. The Wisconsin Dells School District, in conjunction with Delton Fire Department and Kilbourn Fire Department, is offering a specialized introductory fire fighting course every other Wednesday, starting in the 2022-23 school year at Wisconsin Dells High School.

State Highway 146 reopens in Columbia County after grass fire

State Highway 146 has reopened south of Cambria in Columbia County after an earlier grass fire, according to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation. The road was closed just after 4 p.m. and fully reopened just after 6:30 p.m., WisDOT said. A Columbia County dispatcher said the closure was between County Highways A and G.

Massive fire led to many changes in turn-of-the-century Oklahoma city

Most of the early day buildings around the Enid downtown square in 1901 were built of southern hard pine. A few painted walls and some brick walls were beginning to be used. Wooden sidewalks were the standard. According to the Enid Fire Department history, the Enid City Council on Dec. 28, 1893, approved the appointment of a fire warden and assistant fire marshal, plus each business around the downtown square would be required to keep a barrel of water for protection against fire and six fire hand grenades (glass spheres containing carbon tetrachloride) to help put out any fires that occurred.

Help Idaho fire department name its new water rescue training dummies

The Coeur d’Alene Fire Department wants you to help it name some of its newest team members. Fire Rescue crews just got their two new water rescue training dummies and they need to be named. One of the dummies is child-sized and the other is adult-sized. The Coeur d’Alene Fire Department posted pictures of the new dummies to its Facebook page and asked for help picking out names.

COVID Tests Show the Omicron BA.2 Subvariant Is Gaining Ground in U.S.

The omicron subvariant BA.2 is continuing to gain ground in the U.S., according to Covid-19 tests sequenced over the last two weeks. Helix, a San Diego-based genomics firm, has been watching the BA.2 variant since it first popped up in the U.S. in early January. Although it was initially slow to take hold, Helix now estimates that 50% to 70% of all Covid cases nationwide are BA.

Electrical fire in Sheboygan causes $35k in damages

An electrical fire in a Sheboygan residence caused an estimated $35,000 in damages, and left one without a home. According to the Sheboygan Fire Department, on March 21 around 3 a.m., crews responded to a reported fire in the 1800 block of Saemann Avenue. Crews found a small haze of smoke on the second floor and the attic when they arrived.

Nevada firefighters invent lens shield used across the United States

Michigan city unveils $1M fire truck 5 years after last one went up in flames

Baltimore’s Fireboat Could Help Remove Stuck Ship, Union Officials Say

Cambridge VFD Asst. Fire Chief Randy North dies, department says

The Cambridge Volunteer Fire Department is mourning the death of Second Assistant Chief Randy North. In a Facebook post Saturday the fire department announced North’s death, saying the crew is “beyond saddened.” According to the fire department, North served with CFD for 24 years. He was also a driver for the Cambridge Area Emergency Medical Service and involved with the Jefferson County Firefighters and Chief’s Associations.

Chris Carbon selected as next Madison Fire Chief

Chris P. Carbon was selected as the next Madison Fire Chief, according to release from the City of Madison Board of Police and Fire Commissioners (PFC) this Friday. According to the PFC, Carbon is a lifelong Madisonian, having attended Madison West High School, as well as graduating from the UW-Madison with a Bachelor of Science degree.

Heat lamp sparks house fire in Casco

A heat lamp sparked a fire in Casco Thursday, according to officials. At 1 p.m., the Luxemburg Community Fire Department responded to a fire at a home at County Road E in the Town of Casco. It required mutual aid. Firefighters arrived to find flames and smoke coming from a two-story farmhouse. The homeowner escaped without injury.
