Crews warn of unsafe conditions after UTV breaks though ice on Lake Winnebago

A vehicle broke through the ice on Lake Winnebago in Fond du Lac Thursday evening, and crews are warning people that the ice is not safe at this time. At 6:57 p.m., Fond du Lac Fire Rescue, police and deputies responded to Lakeside Park for a report of a vehicle through the ice. It was near the Garden Drive landing area, about a quarter mile from shoreline.

Caledonia police, fire awarded $20,000 for purchase of public safety UTV

In Wisconsin, where people frequent outdoor recreation such as hiking, kayaking, horseback riding, snowmobiling, biking or all-terrain vehicle riding, such activities don’t always come without injury. The Caledonia Fire Department has had incidents where people have injured themselves while off the main roads, but the department wasn’t as fully equipped as it could’ve been to best serve these people.

High fuel price impacts Wisconsin ambulance and fire departments

With recent increases in fuel prices, fire and ambulance departments that have to use a large amount of fuel to operate are starting to see the impacts on their budgets. Baraboo Ambulance Service already set their fuel budget for 2022, so now it’s a matter of staying within it. Fire and ambulance departments do get a small tax break on gas, but fuel still takes up a chunk of their budget.

Train causes Winnebago County grass fire

A grass fire burned 35 acres in a marsh area owned by the Wisconsin DNR Thursday afternoon. Town of Clayton’s emergency manager, Kaylin Rieckmann, tells Action 2 News the wildfire started along the railroad tracks near Pioneer Road and Medina Junction Road. Clayton Fire Rescue called for more help, and ultimately 10 agencies responded to the fire.

VIDEO: Large fire burns Texas city's police department building, historic church

Crews in a small Texas community are working to put out a fire that engulfed the city Thursday afternoon. Heavy flames filled the city of Ranger's downtown area and engulfed historic structures including the police department building and a 100-year-old church. Video taken by the Eastland County Today newspaper showed crews working to put out the fire at the historic Second Baptist Church and the police station.

If you change your clock and change your batteries, change your habits

Tow truck drivers pushing for change in warning lights in Illinois

Tow truck driving can be a dangerous job when workers are along the interstate cleaning up the scene of an accident or towing a vehicle away. After the loss of Ross Booker, local tow truck drivers are asking if something can be done to make their jobs easier. Booker was killed by a 16-year-old after a Scott's Law violation in early March.

Woman's viral TikTok asks for fire department shirts from all 50 states for her father

Her father, Bill Collins, recently retired after being a firefighter for more than 38 years. "He really is passionate about being a firefighter.

Sheboygan house fire; 2 displaced, cause under investigation

Firefighters on Wednesday, March 16 responded to the scene of a house fire near 12th Street and Superior Avenue in Sheboygan. The call came in around 6:20 a.m. Firefighters arrived on the scene in three minutes and reported smoke coming from the second-floor of the residence. Firefighters entered the building with a hose line and found a working fire in the ceiling of the second floor.

LED Study: To protect first responders, brighter isn't better

A recent study by the Emergency Responder Safety Institute revealed that the light-emitting diode flashers on police cruisers, fire engines, and ambulances that spray the night with intense beams to protect first responders from oncoming traffic actually create a lot of glare, and that effect intensifies when the light bounces off retroreflective chevrons attached to the back of emergency vehicles.

Portage County home damaged in fire

No one hurt after garage fire in Eau Claire

VIDEO: No one is hurt after a garage fire Tuesday night in Eau Claire. The fire, which happened at 7:45 p.m. Tuesday at a detached garage near the intersection of 9th Street and Walnut Street on Eau Claire’s northwest side, was quickly brought under control, according to a release from Eau Claire Fire and Rescue.

VIDEO: Massive Fire Breaks Out in Massachusetts

Smoke was visible miles away after a fire broke out Tuesday night in Milford, Massachusetts. Aerial footage showed massive flames engulfing a three-story building on Haven Street. Researchers in Washington State update database to help first responders identify fentanyl

The idea is to put that information into a handheld device that officers or firefighters can use so they know if the substance they have found is dangerous.

NBA player shares big night with Delaware firefighters, first responders who saved him four years ago

It was March 25, 2018, and then high school standout Bones Hyland was in his room in his family’s Delaware home after an AAU game. He was watching the Kansas vs. Duke Elite Eight game on his laptop and talking to a friend when his room started to fill with black smoke. The home was quickly engulfed in fire and Hyland was forced to jump from his second-story window to safety on the ground.
