At 8:42 p.m. July 1, the La Crosse Fire Department was dispatched to Grandad Bluff Road for a report of a hiker who had fallen — the drop was determined to be around 40 feet — and sustained injuries.
Local fire crews were on the scene at 8:47 p.m. and located the hiker below the observation area of Grandad Bluff Park.

Ahead of Fourth of July weekend, the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) reminds the public that fireworks are prohibited on DNR-managed lands.
These restricted areas include state parks, forests and state-owned public hunting and fishing areas, according to Wisconsin DNR.
In Wisconsin, fireworks are also regulated and in order to legally use them, patrons must obtain a permit, depending on the type of firework that is being used.

With a wall of flames blocking the front door, Eli Hessler and his 14-year-old daughter safely fled their burning home at Broad and First streets when a massive fire broke out about 2 p.m. Thursday.
Hessler’s wife, Steph, and the couple’s two other children were not home at the time.
Hessler and his family were heartbroken that their three dogs perished in the multiple-alarm blaze that sent up columns of smoke that could be seen six miles away.

When Denton firefighter Gary Weiland, 42, had his left leg amputated in 2018, he worried whether he could still be an example of strength for his children.

June 5, 2019 is a date that may be etched in the minds of Roswell residents forever.
On that day 12 City of Roswell Fire Department firefighters suffered injuries when a warehouse near the Roswell International Air Center exploded.
The firefighters were preparing fireworks for the Fourth of July when an aerial shell was ignited with an electric match, read an investigation from the New Mexico Fire Marshal’s office, leading to the ignition of other explosives in the building.

The Springfield Fire Department and Brockton Police Departments have been released from a nearly half-a-century-old consent decree that prioritizes the hiring of Black and Hispanic candidates in Massachusetts police and fire departments.

No one was hurt, but six people are without a home after an apartment complex fire in De Pere Wednesday morning.

Some volunteer firefighters in Wisconsin received a gift Wednesday that could save lives.
The Acacia-Itasca Masonic Lodge of Superior presented three local fire departments with fire suppression units.
The kits went to departments in the towns of Superior, Oakland, and Gordon.
The lodge held fundraisers, including a Palm Sunday pancake breakfast to help purchase the units, which cost about $1,000 each.
