Ahead of Fourth of July weekend, the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) reminds the public that fireworks are prohibited on DNR-managed lands. With a wall of flames blocking the front door, Eli Hessler and his 14-year-old daughter safely fled their burning home at Broad and First streets when a massive fire broke out about 2 p.m. Thursday. Some volunteer firefighters in Wisconsin received a gift Wednesday that could save lives. The Acacia-Itasca Masonic Lodge of Superior presented three local fire departments with fire suppression units. The kits went to departments in the towns of Superior, Oakland, and Gordon.
