Connecticut city launches new tool to improve response to fire/EMS calls

VIDEO: The city of Bristol has launched a new, life-saving program so firefighters can move quicker and smarter when they respond to calls. It's called Community Connect and the city just launched it last week. It's a secure, encrypted website, like the ones run by banks, where neighbors and business owners can upload information to help first responders.

Pennsylvania firefighter volunteers in Jerusalem

Gettysburg Fire Department Firefighter Doug Kahn recently packed up his gear and jetted off to Israel for a week as part of the Emergency Volunteer Project (EVP). EVP is a nonprofit rescue program whose mission is to be able to deploy aid and volunteers to Israel at a moment’s notice. Through a partnership with the Israeli government, EVP has trained thousands of volunteers across the United States and Israel.

‘Sight to behold’: Cross remains standing after fire at Texas church

PHOTO: It stood tall among the smoking debris surrounding it. A cross was all that remained of Balsora Baptist Church in Bridgeport, Texas, after a fire swept through the building Friday, leading to a response from a dozen area agencies. The Boonesville–Balsora Volunteer Fire Department described the church fire as a “devastating loss” to the community but noted that the cross was a “sight to behold.

Firefighters respond to laundromat fire on Milwaukee's east side

The Milwaukee Fire Department responded to a fire at a laundromat on the city's east side Monday evening, June 20. It happened at East Side Maytag Coin Laundry located on Prospect and Kenilworth Place. Officials say fire shot through the roof, but fortunately, no one was hurt in the incident. They say the building will likely be closed for a few days.

Cottage Grove firefighter saves family from apartment fire

If it weren’t for the quick actions of a Cottage Grove firefighter, the fire damage to an apartment complex in the Village of Cottage Grove could’ve been much worse. At approximately 5:28 p.m. on Friday, the Cottage Grove Fire Department was dispatched for a structure fire call to an apartment complex on Limestone Pass.

Two Story house in Waukesha nearly destroyed by fire

Waukesha Fire and Police departments responded to a structure fire on Fairview Ave in the City of Waukesha Saturday. Crews arrived and found the outside front of a two-family residence fully engulfed in flames. Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the exterior fire and stop any further spread into the house.

Fire breaks out at Eau Claire assisted living home

A fire broke out at an assisted living home late Thursday night in Eau Claire. The Eau Claire Fire Department got a call at around 10 PM for a structure fire at 104 Illinois Street, which houses a transitional assisted living home for adults. The firefighters saw light smoke on the second floor, which was coming from a fire in the upstairs bathroom.

Stairwell collapse, Milwaukee firefighters injured

VIDEO: The Milwaukee Fire Department said two firefighters were injured Thursday, June 16 when a stairwell collapsed from underneath them. It happened while crews were battling a house fire near 1st and North shortly before 6:40 p.m. MFD said both firefighters were taken to the hospital; their injuries are said to be non-life-threatening.

De Pere receives grant for EMS mobile unit

The De Pere Fire Department has received a $206,831 state grant for an EMS mobile unit. The money comes from the Healthcare Infrastructure Capital Grant program. "The grant will fund a mobile unit to allow De Pere Health Department and De Pere Fire Department to collaboratively provide services such as mobile vaccination clinics, the Stay-at-Home Assistance Program, COVID and other disease outbreak response, shelter response, community education campaigns, and many other programs for De Pere residents," Debbie Armbruster, Health Director/Officer for the City of De Pere, said in a news release "Currently, these initiatives tie up Fire/EMS critical response vehicles, which can lead to delays in care and emergency response.

Firefighters respond to 2-alarm Milwaukee duplex fire, no injuries reported

Firefighters on Friday morning, June 17 responded to the scene of a duplex fire on Port Washington Road, south of Capitol Drive, near Vienna Avenue in Milwaukee. The call came in around 1 a.m. The fire initially started in a vacant structure – before spreading to neighboring duplex buildings that were occupied.

VIDEO: Massive fire erupts at California tire yard

Several agencies were heavily engaged with a massive fire that broke out at a tire yard in Montebello Friday morning. The fire was first reported just after 2:15 a.m. on Bluff Road near Maynard Road, prompting a long battle between firefighters and the massive flames. According to Montebello Fire Department, the fire was very stubborn due to the burning rubber and was expected to continue for hours.

Ohio firefighter helps save life of referee during basketball league game

After wrapping up a 24-hour shift as a firefighter in Toledo, Ohio, this past weekend, Myles Copeland went to New York to suit up for his other job, a player for Toledo Glass City of The Basketball League, for a playoff game against the Jamestown Jackals. But his two worlds collided near the end of the first quarter of Saturday's game when a referee, John Sculli, passed out on the court and became unresponsive.

Fifty years later, the Vendome fire in Boston still casts a tragic shadow

Giving firefighter dads a well-deserved hobby upgrade in Texas

Teaming up with Academy Sports + Outdoors in Katy, we called upon store director James Bage to lean on his hobby upgrading skills. Mural Honoring 3 Illinois Firefighters Killed In 1985 Arson Will Be Restored

Update: Crews locate bodies of 2 men who tried to save Milwaukee boy

The bodies of two men who went into a rain-swollen drainage ditch in Milwaukee to try to save a 10-year-old boy have been recovered, officials said Thursday. The discovery comes three days after the three people were swept into a tunnel that runs under a road, shortly after a storm dropped heavy rainfall.
