VIDEO: Six inmate firefighters were injured when a flash fire occurred in the back of their crew vehicle while working in the Castaic area Tuesday morning.
The incident was reported about 11 a.m. near the Golden State Highway and Templin Highway, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
“A flash fire occurred in the back of an inmate camp crew vehicle,” Fire Department officials said in a tweet hours after the incident.

Baltimore County has approved restarting a program to incentivize police, firefighters and paramedics to delay future retirements and extend their careers.
The benefits incentive, known as a Deferred Retirement Option Program, won’t have an immediate effect in curbing departures from public safety agencies, as the change applies to hires made after July of 2007, who aren’t eligible for retirement until 25 or 30 years of service.

A “significant natural gas leak” temporarily shut down a drop-off site on Madison’s west side, the city’s fire department stated Tuesday.
Firefighters are on scene at 402 South Point Road to investigate the natural gas leak, which was reported around 1:40 p.m. Tuesday.

Two Oshkosh firefighters received an award for delivering a baby outside a hospital.
The firefighter/paramedics, Paul Friday and Hunter Resop, were honored with The Stork Award Monday.
Friday and Resop delivered baby Elijah Sanchez after his mother went into labor at home alone. The Oshkosh Fire Department (OFD) said Elijah’s dad arrived in time to cut the cord.

Teams will be Pulling for Hospice on June 11 as teams put their leg and arm muscles to work to pull a fire truck to benefit Beloit Regional Hospice.
The event is set for 11 a.m.—3 p.m. on June 11 in the parking lot of the Ironworks campus, 690 Third St. This marks the second year for the Pulling for Hospice event.

An administrative partnership between two Coulee Region fire departments may be extended while a long-term agreement continues to develop.
Last summer, the La Crosse and Holmen fire departments came together under a Shared Fire Administration, meaning La Crosse took leadership over both entities.

An apartment fire that destroyed a six-unit complex on Beach Avenue in Atlantic Beach early Tuesday morning spread to a home that was just 5 feet away, causing severe damage to that home also, the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department said.

In an expansion of their fleet, the Honolulu Fire Department now has nine new trucks.
HFD held a Hawaiian blessing at ‘Iolani Palace for the trucks, each given Hawaiian names. The names are significant because they honor King Kamehameha III, who established HFD in 1851.

Five buildings were destroyed during a fire at a former cereal factory in Orange Saturday.
According to State Fire Marshal’s Spokesperson Jake Wark, crews were called to 16 West River Street at around 11:45 a.m. Saturday for reported smoke and flames at the vacant mill building. Four additional buildings were also on fire, including one on East River Street.

VIDEO: Dispatchers in Volusia County can now see an emergency in real time using a video 911 system the sheriff’s office unveiled this week.
Sheriff Mike Chitwood said they’re just starting to use it and an incident on Thursday is a great example of when Volusia residents would need it. Indianapolis firefighters stopped a man with a knife who attacked them after chasing a woman into an east side fire station on Saturday.
At around 1 p.m., a firefighter was backing his fire department vehicle into a bay at IFD Station 11, located at 1715 E. Washington Street near Southeastern and South State avenues, when a woman ran past the vehicle and into the station.
