Racine fire; 3 family dwelling damaged, 1 taken to hospital

The Racine Fire Department responded to the area of Main and Barker Wednesday, May 25 for a fire in a three family dwelling. The call came in around 6:15 p.m. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered the first floor rear unit engulfed in flames. The crew of Engine 1 attacked and controlled the fire keeping it from spreading to the other units.

Smoking materials sparked apartment fire in Chilton, chief says

Smoking materials sparked a fire at an apartment in Chilton early Wednesday. At 4:29 a.m., the Chilton Fire Department responded to a fire at 1030 S. Diane Street. It’s a 16-unit building that houses people with disabilities and mobility issues. Mutual aid was called in and all residents safely evacuated the building.

Fort McCoy : Army Reserve Firefighters Add Skills to Toolbelts

Firefighters from across the Army Reserve used Fort McCoy, Wis., as the backdrop for a 10-day airport rescue firefighting apparatus driver/operator training course detailing the ins and outs of various firefighting vehicles, May 15 to 27, 2022. The training is led by instructors from the Illinois Fire Service Institute with the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and gives Soldiers the knowledge and confidence they need to safely and effectively operate various firefighting vehicles.

19 Children, 2 Adults Killed in Texas School Shooting

VIDEO: The 18-year-old gunman who slaughtered 19 children and two teachers at a Texas elementary school barricaded himself inside a single classroom and “began shooting anyone that was in his way,” authorities said Wednesday in detailing the latest mass killing to rock the U.S. Law enforcement officers eventually broke into the classroom and killed the gunman, who used an AR-style rifle.

Duke University Scientists: Silicone Wristbands Track Firefighters’ Exposure to Harmful Chemicals

Firefighters have a 9 percent higher risk of being diagnosed with cancer and a 14 percent higher risk of dying from the disease than the general adult U.S. population, according to studies by the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health and other agencies. Recent research by scientists at Duke University could give doctors and public health officials a new tool for tracking firefighters’ exposures to cancer-causing chemicals and determining where and when the risks might be greatest.

Tennessee fire department shows its Tiger Pride with new truck

128-unit Madison apartment complex evacuated after high carbon monoxide levels detected

“Dangerous and potentially lethal” levels of carbon monoxide were discovered at a downtown Madison apartment complex Monday, the City of Madison Fire Department stated, which were likely caused by a van left running outside the building. Crews were called just after 5:30 p.m. to evacuate the 128-unit complex on the 1000 block of University Avenue after Madison Gas & Electric noted high readings of carbon monoxide.

Man charged with setting house fire after finding man dead in Waupaca County

Arson and mutilating a corpse charges have been filed against a man in Waupaca County. On May 24, Steven D. Eggert, 24, was charged with 16 counts in this case, according to a criminal complaint obtained by Action 2 News. On April 27, at about 2:18 p.m., the Iola Rural Fire Department and Waupaca County Sheriff’s Office were called to a fire on County Highway P in the Town of Harrison.

Grand Chute fire chief retiring

Grand Chute’s fire chief is retiring after more than four decades of service in public safety, including the last 15 years as fire chief. Timothy Bantes will retire effective July 6. He also served as the Town of Grand Chute’s emergency manager during crises such as severe storms and the Fox River Mall shooting.

8 departments respond to Richfield house fire

On Tuesday May 24, 2022 at approximately 12:31 a.m. the Washington County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a residential fire in the 3400 block of North Shore Drive in the Village of Richfield. The initial caller on scene reported the rear deck of the residence was on fire and that flames and smoke were visible.

Pole barn, shed destroyed in Bloomer farm fire

According to the Bloomer fire chief, a fire broke out at a farm on 130th Street just after 1: 30 p.m. Monday. There were no injuries, but the fire destroyed a pole barn and shed. Several pieces of farm equipment and a vehicle were also destroyed as a result of of the blaze. It took firefighters roughly an hour to get the fire under control.

Central Wisconsin: Agriculture Rescue Training event to be held this fall

Firefighters and farmers have different jobs, but both face risks as part of their everyday duties. These shared risks are why the National Farm Medicine Center, Marshfield Clinic Research Institute, operates the Agriculture Rescue Training program. “The severity of incidents on farms is such that they may be low frequency, but when they happen, they are high risk,” said Casper Bendixsen, National Farm Medicine Center director.

VIDEO: 3 firefighters injured in massive Rhode Island hotel fire

Firefighters are still working to extinguish hotspots after a massive fire broke out inside a Newport hotel Monday evening. Crews responded to the Wayfinder Hotel on Admiral Kalbfus Road shortly after 8 p.m. as heavy flames and smoke could be seen for miles pouring from the roof and windows. Departments from six different communities were called in as mutual aid to help put out the flames at the four-story hotel, which is across the street from the old Newport Grand Casino.

A ride back in time: Retired Connecticut firefighters restoring 1930 tiller truck

The1930 American LaFrance Tiller Truck is now back home. The Middletown Fire Department used the truck from 1930 to about 1963 and recently got a call from someone in Binghamton, New York – the old truck was sitting on a lot there. Jim Loewenthal, a retired Middletown firefighter, enlisted his friends and fellow former firefighters and had the 75-foot fire truck brought back to Middletown.

IAFF Collaborates with Navy to get base fire fighters active and healthy

The IAFF has been collaborating with the U.S. Navy on a program to improve the fitness, health and wellness of Navy fire fighters by encouraging them to become more active. In January 2022, the IAFF launched Integrated Group Navy Fire Instruction, Training and Education (IGNITE), a comprehensive 18-month wellness-fitness program, in collaboration with fire fighters from Navy Region Mid-Atlantic (NRMA).

Florida fire department to begin using innovative Tele911 program in June

The Kissimmee Fire Department will begin integrating telemedicine and patient navigation into the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) system with the Tele911 program beginning Monday, June 6. The use of Tele911, Inc. by Kissimmee Fire Department is intended to reduce ambulance transports to the Emergency Room for residents who call 911 with non-emergency medical issues.
