New Mexico fire rescue participates in annual Memorial Day ‘Murph’ challenge

For years, Albuquerque Fire Rescue has honored Memorial Day by completing the CrossFit “Murph” Challenge. KOB 4 was at the AFR Training Academy early Monday morning to get an inside look at the annual tradition and to learn more about the national hero the workout is named after. “When you’re suffering, try to remember those that take care of us,” said Christopher Epley, captain of training at the AFR Training Academy.

500 motorcycles honor Ohio’s fallen firefighters in Cleveland

VIDEO/PHOTOS: Hundreds of motorcycle riders gathered in downtown Cleveland on Sunday to honor Ohio’s fallen firefighters who died in 2021. The 18th Annual Firefighters Memorial Ride started with a ceremony at the Cleveland Firefighters Memorial in front of the Cleveland Science Center at 10:30 a.m. Following the ceremony, the processional ride began from downtown Cleveland at the Firefighters Memorial and traveled through the following communities: Cleveland, Cleveland Heights, South Euclid, Mayfield Heights, Willoughby, Mayfield Village, Eastlake and ending at Western Reserve Harley-Davidson in Mentor with food and entertainment.

165 killed in Kentucky supper club fire remembered on 45th anniversary of Tri-State tragedy

May 28, 1977 is a date that may never be forgotten in the Tri-State. 165 people were killed and hundreds more were hurt in a fire at the Beverly Hills Supper Club in Southgate, Kentucky on that date. The famed club near Cincinnati, which was known for entertainment, was hosting a huge crowd that night.

Kitchen fire in De Pere home kills three pets, causes $100,000 in damages

A fire that started in a kitchen killed three pets Thursday night, De Pere Fire Rescue said Friday. At around 9 p.m. Thursday, dispatchers received a call about a fire at a home on Indy Court. First responders arrived within minutes and contained the fire to the kitchen, the fire department said. All of the residents of the house safely made it outside.

Lipski Legacy: Celebrating 110 years of family firefighters in Milwaukee

One family is celebrating more than a century of service to Milwaukee in 2022. The Lipski family has been serving in the Milwaukee Fire Department for 110 years. It started back in 1912 when current Chief Aaron Lipski's great-grandfather's oldest brother started at Engine No 21 off of Palmer and Lloyd Street.

Beaver Dam school bus fire extinguished, no injuries reported

The Beaver Dam Fire Department was called to a school bus fire Thursday afternoon, May 26. The fire was reported behind a gas station near Crystal Lake Park just after 1 p.m. Before the fire department arrived, a Badger Bus employee tried to put out the flames with a fire extinguisher. Other workers moved several other buses that were nearby – preventing the fire from spreading.

A home in Jackson’s Belhaven neighborhood appears to be a total loss after a massive fire overnight. The house is at the corner of Pinehurst and Olive Streets, right across from Belhaven University and a few doors down from the historic Eudora Welty House. Salary study shows South Carolina city facing high employee turnover

The city of Charleston is having trouble retaining employees, especially those outside of the police and fire departments. These workers, often referred to as “non-sworn” or “civilians,” are leaving at a higher rate than in years past, according to an internal survey conducted by the city. So far in 2022, 62 percent of exiting employees cited pay as their main reason for leaving.

In wake of Surfside condo collapse, Florida Legislature passes condominium safety legislation

A bill to ensure condominium safety passed both chambers of the legislature and was signed Thursday by Gov. Ron DeSantis. Acid leak in Stevens Point Contained

Hazmat teams are responding to a developing situation in Stevens Point. According to the Portage County Sheriff’s Office per the Stevens Point Fire Chief, crews responded to a sulfuric acid leak Thursday night. Tennessee school bus driver spots and reports house fire, incident captured on helmet cam

Oregon fire chief who responded to Thurston High School reacts to Texas shooting

In the wake of the Uvalde, Texas elementary school shooting, KOIN 6 News talked to a former Oregon fire chief who responded to the 1998 Thurston High School shooting who also pioneered a program that worked to prevent school shootings for nearly a decade. On May 21, 1998, 15-year-old Kip Kinkel, a freshman at Thurston High School in Springfield shot and killed two student and wounded 25 more.

Rhode Island launches nation’s first COVID test-to-treat site

White House COVID-19 Coordinator Dr. Ashish Jha joined McKee virtually to announce the nation’s first federally backed test-to-treat site is opening at the Clínica Esparanza/Hope Clinic in Providence.
