IAFF Collaborates with Navy to get base fire fighters active and healthy

The IAFF has been collaborating with the U.S. Navy on a program to improve the fitness, health and wellness of Navy fire fighters by encouraging them to become more active. In January 2022, the IAFF launched Integrated Group Navy Fire Instruction, Training and Education (IGNITE), a comprehensive 18-month wellness-fitness program, in collaboration with fire fighters from Navy Region Mid-Atlantic (NRMA).

Florida fire department to begin using innovative Tele911 program in June

The Kissimmee Fire Department will begin integrating telemedicine and patient navigation into the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) system with the Tele911 program beginning Monday, June 6. The use of Tele911, Inc. by Kissimmee Fire Department is intended to reduce ambulance transports to the Emergency Room for residents who call 911 with non-emergency medical issues.

Bear breaks into Medford home through window and attacks a couple, but they fought back

A Medford couple fought and killed a 120-pound adult female black bear that broke into their home on Friday night, injuring both of them. The attack was reported at 11:11 p.m. Friday on Castle Road in the town of Medford, according to the Taylor County Sheriff's Office. When deputies and emergency services got to the home, they found the injured homeowners and their children, who had been asleep at the time of the attack and were unharmed, the sheriff's office said.

Milwaukee's north side apartment fire displaces 60+

A fire on Milwaukee's north side left dozens of people without a place to sleep Saturday night, May 21. The Red Cross was able to put up some residents at their downtown office for the night before a shelter was opened Sunday. The fire happened after the Red Cross spent the weekend installing hundreds of smoke alarms on Milwaukee's south side.

Arizona scrapyard fire contained after sparking explosions

VIDEO: A major scrapyard fire has been put out after Phoenix Fire Department and several other agencies worked early Sunday morning to contain it near the I-10 stack. Fire crews were called out to the scene near 22nd Avenue and Willetta Street, south of McDowell Road around 5:45 a.m. Video from the scene showed massive plumes of black smoke over central Phoenix as firefighters worked to put out the flames.

Sickness, death still follow FDNY veterans who fought massive East Village phone exchange fire nearly 50 years ago

Eau Claire Fire Department responds to kitchen fire at Red Coal BBQ

Firefighters responded to a local family restaurant shortly before 1 a.m. Sunday morning. Crews were at Red Coal BBQ on North Clairemont Avenue for a kitchen fire. Officials with the Eau Claire Fire Department said they forcibly entered the building after heavy smoke was seen upon arrival. They worked to extinguish the fire so it did not spread beyond the kitchen, but there was heavy smoke throughout the restaurant.

Vandals Hit Fireman's Park in Campbellsport For Third Time, Confess

Fireman’s Park in Campbellsport was vandalized for a third time this year, this time in the woman’s bathroom. But unlike the previous incidents, responsibility for the vandalism has been accepted. A number of Parents and children confessed to local authorities regarding the vandalism. In a social media post issued Thursday the Campbellsport Police Department said many tips were given, followed by parents bringing their children in and advising the Department that they had been involved in the vandalism.

New Wisconsin Rapids Fire Chief Todd Eckes wants to carry on tradition of excellence

The city's newest fire chief has a long history with the fire service. Chief Todd Eckes officially took the oath of office Tuesday evening during the Wisconsin Rapids Common Council meeting. He had been interim fire chief since former Chief Scott Young's retirement in October. The Wisconsin Rapids Police and Fire Commission named him as the new fire chief on May 2.

New Jersey beach sand collapse: Firefighter describes efforts to uncover victims

PHOTOS: A New Jersey firefighter says his department is still recovering emotionally after attempting to dig two teenage victims out of a sand collapse at Toms River’s Ocean Beach on Tuesday. Despite first responders’ efforts, Levi Caverly, 18, died in the collapse of a 10-foot hole he dug on the beach with his 17-year-old sister, whom rescuers saved after hours of digging.

Utah fire department to get customized tiller truck

PHOTOS: In 2021, the Orem Fire Department requested, and was granted by the city council, a major purchase for the city — a tiller fire truck. Tiller trucks are the most maneuverable type of fire apparatus in the fleet of fire trucks. They also come with a hefty price tag. Orem’s truck is being built to custom specifications and ,when completed, will cost about $1.
