A Los Angeles firefighter who was badly burned in a massive downtown L.A. explosion and fire two years ago is continuing his road to recovery.
On May 16, 2020, explosions rocked a burning downtown vape shop. L.A. Fire Capt. Victor Aguirre rushed in to save lives and was the last firefighter to escape down a ladder when it was engulfed by a fireball.

President Joe Biden awarded the Medal of Valor to 15 public safety officers Monday at the White House, including two officers who died in the line of duty. The Medal of Valor is the highest award a president can bestow on a public safety officer. In an East Room ceremony, Biden called the honorees "the heart and soul and very spine of this country," saying they were "the ones who ran in to help when everyone else ran away.

New Jersey will use $10 million in federal coronavirus relief funds to help provide fire departments with more safety and sanitary equipment, officials announced Monday. The state’s Firefighter Grant Program will allow local and regional fire departments to apply for the taxpayer money from the American Rescue Plan, which Congress passed to provide stimulus funds in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Eau Claire fire crews battled a fire at a home off of East Riverview Drive Monday night.
According to ECFD, the fire started in the attic and then spread to the first floor. The homeowners noticed the fire and called 911. According to fire officials, one of the homeowners was evaluated on scene. Firefighters were also able to get multiple pets out of the home.

One person was displaced Saturday night after malfunctioning pool equipment caused a fire.
Officials responded to the 7100 block of Colony Drive at about 5:10 p.m.
A news release said the fire began on the outside of the house but quickly spread up the siding and into the attic space.
The fire caused significant damage to the attic and upper level of the home, the release said.

A massive fire destroyed a manufacturing plant in Spring Hope in Nash County late Saturday night and early Sunday, officials said.
The fire started about 11:30 p.m. at JHRG Manufacturing, which makes protector fabrics, including body armor, according to Spring Hope police and fire officials.
Several agencies eventually were able to control of fire, but the building was destroyed, according to Spring Hope fire officials.

As Corpus Christi Fire Department cadets were recognized by friends, family and city officials Thursday evening at Del Mar College, one word kept coming up: pioneer.
The 22 future firefighters were celebrated for their completion of an innovative paramedic training program. The cadets were the first people in the country to attempt a simultaneous, expedited emergency medical technician and paramedic training course.

Officials in Poynette are investigating what caused a house fire Sunday night, saying an explosion may have sparked the flames. No one was hurt, but two dogs died in the fire.

The De Pere Fire Rescue Department responded to a structure fire on 1105 Fay Court around 5:56 Sunday morning. All residents had already evacuated.
A detached garage was heavily engulfed in flames. The fire was moving to the exterior of a single family home.
Firefighters managed to extinguish the flames and prevent the fire from extending into the residence.

PHOTOS: No one was injured Thursday morning after a fire tore through a vehicle at a Dane County gas station.
Cottage Grove Fire crews were called around 9 a.m. to the BP Gas Station on the 2700 block of Highway N in the Town of Pleasant Springs for a car that was fully engulfed in flames.
A fuel tank ruptured shortly after first responders arrived, which they noted made containing the fire a challenge.

PHOTOS: I admit that I didn't remember, but my friend Lois Seymour did, that it was the 30th anniversary of a monstrous fire that broke out on May 3, 1991, at Madison's Central Storage & Warehouse Co.. It was later proclaimed to have been Madison's biggest fire ever by fire department officials.
The fire at the huge food storage facility on Cottage Grove Road and Highway 51/151 in east Madison was later attributed to a forklift battery malfunction.
