AT&T Launches New Location-Based Routing System for 9-1-1 Calls in the United States

AT&T on Tuesday announced the launch of its new location-based routing to automatically transmit wireless 9-1-1 calls to the appropriate 9-1-1 call centers on a nationwide basis. AT&T can quickly and more accurately identify where a wireless 9-1-1 call is coming from using device GPS and hybrid information to route the call to the correct 9-1-1 call center, also known as public safety answering point or PSAP.

Man proposes after Tennessee firefighters save engagement ring from burning car

A young man is breathing a little easier after nearly losing an engagement ring to a vehicle fire on Monday. According to Williamson County Fire Rescue, fire crews were dispatched to a car fire off I-840 on Monday afternoon. Fire-Rescue crews arrived to find the vehicle fully involved and quickly moved to stop the flames.

U.S. COVID Cases Are Rising Again, but Worries Are Not

The steady increase in COVID-19 cases this past month is not disconcerting to Americans, as they are less worried now about the coronavirus than they were at the start of the year, and fewer are social distancing. Fewer than one in three U.S. adults (31%) say they are "very" or "somewhat worried" about getting COVID-19, statistically similar to the 34% recorded in mid-February when cases were steeply declining after the omicron spike.

Two found dead near scene of fire in Township of Presque Isle

Two people were found dead near the scene of a fire in the Township of Presque Isle Tuesday afternoon. According to the Vilas County Sheriff's Office, the call for the fire off of Baer Road came in at 12:43 p.m. When they arrived, local firefighters and responders from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Fire Services were able to put out the flames.

Four tenants, multiple guests displaced in Madison apartment fire

An east side apartment building is displaced following a fire that caused significant damage. Madison Fire crews arrived to a two-story, four-unit apartment building with smoke showing Monday night around 10:30 p.m. The crew made their way to the second floor from the exterior and entered the apartment.

Crew investigating lightning as possible cause of Wood County barn fire

The cause of a barn fire in Wood County is still undetermined, but authorities are investigating if lightning may be the cause. Around 11:30 p.m. Monday night, several departments were paged to the scene of a barn fire on 11600 block of State Highway 10 in the town of Lincoln. That location is southwest of Marshfield.

2-story home catches fire in Milwaukee

Crews fought a fire at a building at 7th and Cleveland in Milwaukee overnight Tuesday. Flames erupted in a large, two-story home there. A Milwaukee Fire Department battalion chief told us that everyone got out of the house and that no firefighters were injured. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

New Marshfield fire chief plans to focus on recruitment, response times and department’s ‘family atmosphere’

Fort Atkinson Fire Department to purchase three new vehicles

Pittsburgh firefighters no longer required to live in city, under legal settlement with union

FBI, ATF join investigation into Madison arson

Federal law enforcement agencies are getting involved in the search for the suspect or suspects who set fire to the office of a Madison-area anti-abortion group on Sunday morning. Police Chief Shon Barnes says someone was driving past the building when they noticed the fire and called 9-1-1. “Our responding officers observed smoke coming from inside the building and a ground-level window which had been breached,” Chief Barnes said during a press conference on Monday.

Wildfire season sparks in Wisconsin, DNR says

Wildfire season is in full swing, according to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR). The DNR's dashboard shows there's been more than 50 fires this weekend alone. "We're starting to see a lot of fire activity, particularly this weekend with the warm temperatures, low humidity, and increased winds," DNR Wildfire Prevention Specialist Catherine Koele said.

Watertown narrows down locations for new fire station

Dream Job: Man brought love of firefighting from Czech Republic to Kentucky county

When Pavel Zboril moved to Owensboro from the Czech Republic, he thought he left his life as a firefighter behind. Zboril, who comes from a community near the Czech city of Olomouc, was a volunteer firefighter, from a family of firefighters. “We have a long family history of volunteer firefighters in my family,” he said.
