Downtown Wautoma gas leak blamed on contractor

Wautoma’s police chief says all roads downtown are back open after a gas leak late Thursday morning. Chief Paul Mott says a private contractor hit a main gas line while digging. Fire and police departments were called to the 100-block of South St. Marie Street at quarter after 11. The courthouse, library, and most downtown businesses were evacuated.

He’s checking his truck and gear to make sure it’s in good working order so he can respond quickly if called to a fire. “I’m not going to lie, the pager tone is pretty high pitched so it definitely gets your blood pumping,” Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources forest ranger and firefighter Garrett Lubbers said.

VIDEO: Dump truck crashes into ODOT vehicle on northern Ohio highway

Two drivers were taken to a hospital after a dump truck crashed into the back of an Ohio Department of Transportation vehicle on a northern Ohio interstate Thursday morning. Before 7:20 a.m., an ODOT worker was headed to pick up a street sweeper from another location and had pulled his truck over on the way when he noticed trash on the side of the highway.

PHOTOS: I admit that I didn't remember, but my friend Lois Seymour did, that it was the 30th anniversary of a monstrous fire that broke out on May 3, 1991, at Madison's Central Storage & Warehouse Co.. It was later proclaimed to have been Madison's biggest fire ever by fire department officials. The fire at the huge food storage facility on Cottage Grove Road and Highway 51/151 in east Madison was later attributed to a forklift battery malfunction.

Ukranian firefighters head to Florida for Firefighter Combat Challenge

The toughest two minutes in sports will be hosted in Martin County this weekend. The Firefighter Combat Challenge is a grueling course that requires strength and endurance and showcases skills that firefighters use every day. The free-to-attend contest will be held Saturday and Sunday at Stuart Beach and is a regional qualifying event for the national competition scheduled to take place in Fort Pierce in September.

Rising USFL star was preparing to be firefighter before getting drafted

Birmingham Stallions linebacker Scooby Wright III has been one of the breakout stars of the inaugural United States Football League season. Through four games, the Stallions are undefeated. Wright has recorded 32 tackles, two sacks, two forced fumbles and two passes defended to help Birmingham. Wright was the Stallions’ first selection in the inside linebackers portion of the USFL Draft in February.

Fall Creek church fire likely caused by lightning strike

VIDEO: The Fall Creek Area Fire District said a lightning strike is the likely culprit behind an overnight fire at St. James Trinity Lutheran Church in downtown Fall Creek. Crews were sent to the church at 2:51 a.m. Thursday and found the bell tower of the church on fire, according to a post on Facebook from the Fire District.

Barron house fire: Man, 2 children dead

Three people, including two children, died in a house fire in Barron County early Thursday, according to sheriff’s officials. Dispatchers received a 911 call about 3:30 a.m. The caller said three people were still inside the house in Barron. Firefighters were able to pull two children from the burning home and they were taken to Mayo Hospital, where they were later pronounced dead.

Florida's Surfside Condo Collapse Victims to Share Over $1B in Recovery Funds

Architecture firm designs fire station to train elite FDNY firefighters

Studio Gang has completed a fire station for Brooklyn's elite force that doubles as a simulation and training facility for extreme rescue situations. The new headquarters for the FDNY's Rescue 2 unit is located in Brownsville, Brooklyn. Each of New York's five boroughs has a dedicated Rescue team. Cattle killed, barn destroyed by fire in Fond du Lac county town of Eden

Firefighters from multiple counties extinguished a large barn fire Tuesday afternoon, according to a news release from the Fond du Lac County Sheriff's Office. At 3:26 p.m., the Fond du Lac County Sheriff's Office and the Eden Fire Department were dispatched to a barn fire at N4334 Pine Road in the town of Eden.

Marsh fire burns 20 acres in Fond du Lac

Fond du Lac firefighters are warning about the dry conditions after a marsh fire Tuesday night. At about 11:13 p.m., Fond du Lac Fire Rescue responded to Lakeshore Drive north of Howard Litscher Drive. Crews found dry marsh grass on fire spreading east. Hand pumper returned home to Pennsylvania fire company after years of searching

People lined the streets of Kutztown for the long-anticipated return of a hand pumper used to fight fires in the mid 1800's.
