'It's absolutely a miracle': First responders give update about EF-3 tornado damage in Kansas

Everywhere you go just south of the Andover Road and US Highway 400 intersection in Andover you see the same thing. Houses destroyed and debris everywhere. That is what is left in wake of a EF-3 tornado that hit the southeastern part of the city Friday night, leaving a swath of destruction. During a news conference Saturday at 4:30, just under 24 hours since the twister first touched down, first responders had several updates on the status of the city.

Female firefighters make strides in one Georgia city

VIDEO: Two years ago, the Decatur Fire Department made a name for itself when it became the first and only fire department in the country to hold an all-female command. Today, they continue to hold that title, and last weekend the department celebrated a personal stride on Instagram when every one of their responding fire units had a woman as their fire apparatus operator.

An unseen hazard: Indiana to remove toxic firefighting foam, but contamination persists

In the early 1980s, Indianapolis firefighter Tom Hanify was part of a training exercise using foam spray to put out a controlled house fire. After Hanify and the crew contained the blaze, they stuck around just to play in the foam. He said that at the time, the firefighters were just having fun. Now, looking back, there was nothing funny about it.

Kenosha County barn fire; sergeant, deputy injured, cause unknown

Firefighters on Sunday, May 1 responded to the scene of barn fire on 317th Avenue in the Town of Wheatland in Kenosha County. The call came in around 8 p.m. According to deputies on the scene, horses in the barn were rescued by the homeowners and appear to have no injuries. One of the homeowners was transported to an area hospital for possible smoke inhalation.

Kenosha Mayor to request referendum to exceed tax levy for more police, firefighters

Kenosha Mayor John Antaramian will ask the City Council to approve a referendum to exceed the state-mandated property tax levy so the city can hire more police officers and firefighters. The City Council will consider the matter during Monday night’s meeting at the Municipal Building, 625 52nd St. The city hopes to hire 10 additional police officer positions with associated equipment to “enhance the police department’s ability to fulfill all of the department’s response and preventative responsibilities.

One dead after apartment fire on Milwaukee's South Side

One person is dead after a fire late last night near 18th and National on Milwaukee’s south side. The Milwaukee Fire Department says it was called to the apartment complex at 1817 West National Avenue around 10:30 last night. Once firefighters extinguished the flames they found a deceased victim in one of the units.

Firefighter injured after falling out of New Jersey fire truck en route to call

A Hamilton firefighter was injured Thursday when he fell out of a fire truck while en route to a call in the Mercer County town on Wednesday. The firefighter was in the front passenger’s seat of the rig with its lights and sirens on just before 1:30 p.m. when the passenger door opened and he tumbled to the ground near the corner of Nottingham Way and Donald Drive, Hamilton police said.

Tennessee junior firefighters train to defend reigning championship in first competition since 2019

Sprinklers credited with containing fire at Essity Paper Plant in Menasha

Neenah-Menasha Fire Rescue answered to fire and water flow alarms coming from the Essity paper plant at 190 Third Street Thursday afternoon. The first crews were on the scene about 3 minutes after the call at 3 o’clock and found significant smoke in an area near the dock doors. As more firefighters were called for a structure fire, the initial crews found the fire originated in the processing area of the plant and it was already contained.

Wausau Fire Department working to help employees with mental health

Simulation exercise preps for danger: Four-day emergency class concludes in Waupun

Firefighters respond to blaze in downtown La Crosse

Fire causes major damage to vacant factory in North Carolina, fire department says

VIDEO: An overnight fire caused major damage at a vacant factory building in Hickory, according to the Hickory Fire Department. The department said firefighters responded after midnight to the 1600 block of 11th Avenue NE where a large fire could be seen coming from the building. Fire officials said no injuries were reported, but damages “are considered major.

2 Colorado towns will try 4th of July drone shows due to fire risk

Phones have been busy at Hire UAV Pros in Denver. "We had probably somewhere in the order of 300 to 400 requests for the 4th of July," Graham Hill, the business' owner, said. His company does synchronized drone light shows like the ones you might see at the Super Bowl. Now, towns in fire-prone areas are reaching out to inquire about a replacement for traditional fireworks.

This fire truck raced to the Hindenburg disaster; now it's parked in a Virginia barn

Tom Herman is a collector with an addiction. The career firefighter first got into collecting as a teen. "I got into collecting fire memorabilia and just kind of never stopped," Herman, now known as an authority on almost all things fire service related, said. "I don’t know how this happened but it just kind of morphed over a 40-year time period.
