Milwaukee police are investigating a homicide that occurred on Thursday, Aug. 25 near 83rd and Nash. It happened at approximately 4:12 a.m. MFD responded to a residence for a house fire and located a deceased victim. The victim, a 36-year-old Milwaukee woman, sustained fatal gunshot injuries. For the first time since 2002, the Wausau Fire Department is changing their minimum requirements for applicants. The department is now accepting applicants with EMT basic training and level one firefighter certification. Joe Arico has earned bragging rights in the Eureka Fire Protection District’s houses. The 59-year-old volunteer firefighter set a Firefighter Challenge world record earlier this month with his tandem race partner Lianne McAuley, a firefighter from Ottawa, Ontario.
