A firefighters union and a chiefs association are both warning members that the protective gear firefighters wear poses a health risk because it can contain PFAS, synthetic chemicals associated with issues such as an increased risk of liver and kidney cancer.
PFAS, short for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, are often referred to as "forever chemicals" because they’re nearly impossible to destroy.

In early August, NorthStar Ambulance in Tuscaloosa started doing something ‘untraditional’ to recruit future EMTs. The strategy seems to be paying off so far.

When Baraboo Fire Department Deputy Chief Steve Pointon celebrated 40 years as a firefighter in February 2017, he said he would attempt to break the service record of 43 years set by his wife’s grandfather, Noble Sprecher.

Milwaukee police are investigating a homicide that occurred on Thursday, Aug. 25 near 83rd and Nash. It happened at approximately 4:12 a.m.
MFD responded to a residence for a house fire and located a deceased victim. The victim, a 36-year-old Milwaukee woman, sustained fatal gunshot injuries. This incident is currently still under investigation.

For the first time since 2002, the Wausau Fire Department is changing their minimum requirements for applicants.
The department is now accepting applicants with EMT basic training and level one firefighter certification.
Applicants will still be required to get their paramedic and level two certifications, but the department will allow them 12 months to complete those after being hired.

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation says a driver was killed in a crash on I-43 Tuesday night.
The crash occurred on I-43 at STH 60 near Grafton, Wisconsin.
