150 years of stellar service. The Hudson Fire Department, joined by family, friends, partners and community members, honored its past and celebrated its future on its birthday, Monday, April 4. In 1873, the organized firefighting team was established. Since then, it has collaborated with neighbors to protect not just property, but most importantly, the people.

Mishicot firefighter named Wisconsin Firefighter of the Year after rescuing family from fire amid February 2022 snowstorm

John Tulachka is a busy guy. He not only serves full-time as public works director for the village of Mishicot, but also volunteers as a firefighter for both the Mishicot and Tisch Mills fire departments. His dedication to all those roles led the Wisconsin State Firefighter's Association to name Tulachka Firefighter of the Year for 2022 at its recent banquet and annual conference.

City of Milwaukee says there have been 17 overdose deaths in the county since Saturday

The City of Milwaukee, along with local officials, will be hosting a press conference Tuesday after 17 people in Milwaukee County died from an overdose since Saturday. According to a media alert from the city, the 17 deaths reported since Saturday may be the sign of a possible "bad batch." The average age of the overdose victims is 50 years old.

Fire Destroys Garage in Sheboygan

It took only 20 minutes for Sheboygan firefighters to bring a garage fire under control, but the structure was a total loss on Monday. The SFD was on-site within three minutes of being dispatched to the 10-hundred block of Bell Avenue just before 1 p.m. and turned six pieces of firefighting apparatus on the two-car detached garage, which was fully engulfed in flames when they arrived.

Six ice fishermen rescued from ice floe in bay of Green Bay off Door County

Six ice fishermen were rescued Sunday afternoon from an ice floe that broke off from the shore in above-freezing temperatures and windy conditions and drifted into the bay of Green Bay. The six men, none of who reportedly were Door County residents, ventured onto the ice off Big Rock Place in the Town of Gardner when a visible crack in the ice about 300 yards from shore turned into a full breakage.

What the color of the cap means for hydrants in Wisconsin

If someone has ever looked at a fire hydrant, they may have noticed that the caps on them can be different colors. These different colors are actually for a reason and in a release, the De Pere Public Works broke down what each color means. The hydrant cap color is there to tell firefighters, water/maintenance workers, and other emergency responders the flow rate of the water inside.

Several cats dead after mobile home fire in Oak Creek; other cats saved

Several cats were found dead inside a mobile home after a fire in Oak Creek Monday morning. According to the Oak Creek Fire Department, crews responded to a mobile home fire in the 2500 block of West Carroll Avenue around 11:15 a.m. The fire was under control and completely extinguished within 10 minutes of arrival.
