VIDEO: Eight residents of a Madison apartment building were displaced following a cooking fire Wednesday evening, the Madison Fire Department said.
The fire was reported just before 5:55 p.m. at an apartment building in the 1300 block of East Washington Avenue. In an incident report, the city's fire department said firefighters got to the scene and found the building's sprinkler system had extinguished the fire.

Clinical cases of Candida auris, an emerging fungus considered an urgent threat, nearly doubled in 2021, according to new data from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Firefighters on Tuesday, March 21 responded to the scene of an apartment building fire near Edgerton and Nicholson in Cudahy. The call came in around 2 a.m.
The fire was confined to one unit. A woman was transported to the burn center at St. Mary’s Hospital. Her condition is unknown. Her dog was removed and is in good condition.

The Madison Fire Department appointed a new fire marshal, officials announced Tuesday.
Bill Sullivan assumed duties on March 6. He has worked with MFD since 2007.
Sullivan earned a Bachelor of Science in Fire and Safety Engineering Technology from the Eastern Kentucky University. He has spent the last 18 years as a Fire Protection Engineer for MFD.

There is a push from Maine lawmakers to require all police officers, corrections officers, and municipal firefighters to carry Narcan while on duty.
The bill is expected to be presented on Monday. The bill would require the carrying of Narcan, which is used to treat people experiencing an overdose, as well as additional training on its use.

Banbury place saw yet another fire Sunday night. With all the industrial equipment and chemicals in its buildings, fire officials are answering questions on if these fires are of concern to the historic site or the community.
