Los Angeles area hit by rare tornado – the strongest one to hit the county since 1983

VIDEO: At least one person was injured after a rare tornado hit a city just southeast of Los Angeles Wednesday, local officials said. The National Weather Service confirmed the tornado “briefly touched down” in an industrial park and warehouse district in the city of Montebello and rated the tornado an EF-1 with estimated peak winds of 110 mph – the strongest tornado to hit the Los Angeles area since 1983.

Maine law for K9s is influencing other states

As of 2018, a law was passed in Maine that if a working police dog is injured in the line of duty, they are able to be treated by EMS before being sent to the hospital. Maine was the first state in New England to pass this law to protect police K9s. One of Portland's K9s, and his officer partner, are now advocating for that same law in New Hampshire.

House a total loss after fire in Chippewa County

A Town of Anson family lost their home in the early morning hours Wednesday. Anson Fire Chief Rick Schemenauer said when crews arrived, the two-story home was already fully engulfed. The house, located on 80th Avenue, had two people inside at the time, but Schemenauer said both were able to get out before crews arrived and had minor injuries.

8 displaced following cooking fire at apartment building, Madison Fire Department says

VIDEO: Eight residents of a Madison apartment building were displaced following a cooking fire Wednesday evening, the Madison Fire Department said. The fire was reported just before 5:55 p.m. at an apartment building in the 1300 block of East Washington Avenue. In an incident report, the city's fire department said firefighters got to the scene and found the building's sprinkler system had extinguished the fire.

An emerging fungal threat spread at an alarming rate in US health care facilities, study says

Cudahy apartment building fire; 1 taken to hospital

Firefighters on Tuesday, March 21 responded to the scene of an apartment building fire near Edgerton and Nicholson in Cudahy. The call came in around 2 a.m. The fire was confined to one unit. A woman was transported to the burn center at St. Mary’s Hospital. Her condition is unknown. Her dog was removed and is in good condition.

Madison Fire Department appoints new fire marshal

The Madison Fire Department appointed a new fire marshal, officials announced Tuesday. Bill Sullivan assumed duties on March 6. He has worked with MFD since 2007. Sullivan earned a Bachelor of Science in Fire and Safety Engineering Technology from the Eastern Kentucky University. He has spent the last 18 years as a Fire Protection Engineer for MFD.
