The Superior Fire Department received a funding boost from Essentia Health. On Wednesday morning the department was presented with a $13,500 check. The donation will go toward First Responder Emotional Resiliency Training, which focuses on improving first responders’ mental and social well-being. Russell Habermann with Essentia says firefighters are often the first to respond to serious situations, which is why the training is important.

Investigators are trying to figure out what caused an explosion that rocked part of a Queens neighborhood on Wednesday. The sounds of screams could be heard between loud pops from a fiery DOT truck parked on the side of the road at Vernon Boulevard and 47th Avenue. People were seen sprinting from the busy Long Island City blocks as emergency crews simultaneously worked to evacuate those nearby and put out the truck.

A house fire on the Fourth of July in Green Bay is under investigation after causing an estimated $125,000 in damages and displacing one. According to the Green Bay Metro Fire Department, crews were sent to the 1400 block of Cedar Street for reports of a house fire around 9:50 p.m. on July 4. First arriving crews found a house fully involved with fire and made an aggressive attack to knock down the fire within five minutes of arrival.

First responders in Whittier rushed to a fire at the city’s fuel dock just before noon on Tuesday. Fire crews have gained control of a 4-alarm fire that ignited in a neighborhood near 40th Street and McDowell Road Friday afternoon.
