FASNY sounds alarm as New York leads in fire deaths

A recent house fire in the Capital Region added four more people to the state’s residential fire death toll for 2023. According to a press release from the Firefighters Association of the State of New York (FASNY), in 2017, 2018, and 2019, New York led the nation in fire deaths. The state is presently on track for the same mention in 2023.

Car hits home, gas meter in La Crosse causing a fire

No one is reported to be hurt after a car hit a home and a gas meter in La Crosse, causing a fire. According to information from the La Crosse Fire Department, on July 17, 2023, around 12:50 p.m. the La Crosse Fire Department responded to a report of a vehicle hitting a home and hitting the gas meter on the south side of the city.

Madison firefighters save Pomeranian stuck in a sofa

A little Pomeranian is back home and enjoying all the love his family can give him after a big fright on Saturday night. The tiny dog named Bear crawled under the couch that evening right as a motorized footrest was activated and began closing, the Madison Fire Dept. explained. The whirring motors started winding the fluffy pup’s fur and reeling him toward the hinges and gears.

Small bathroom fan fire escalates to building evacuation in Fond du Lac

Fond du Lac firefighters are reminding the public to call 911 if they have a fire in their home no matter how small after an apartment building fire. Firefighters say around 2 a.m. Monday, they received a call on a non-emergency phone line to look at a bathroom exhaust fan in an apartment at 234 S. National Avenue.

VIDEO: 5 California homes burn while fire crews work to extinguish in triple-digit heat

The Woodland Fire Department is investigating a structure fire that spread to five homes and an outbuilding on Saturday near Lincoln Avenue and Elm Street. It is still unknown what caused the fire but the department said that responders were able to contain it to the homes of origin and prevent the flames from spreading.

Over 50 Arizona fire stations replaced cancer-causing foam

VIDEO: State officials have expanded their efforts to protect the health of firefighters. The Arizona Department of Environmental Quality has been replacing the foam used on some fires, which has been linked to cancer. They just wrapped up a 6-month effort with better results than expected. It’s called the Take Back and Replace Program.

Pennsylvania train derailment: Silicone pellets found leaking out of collapsed train cars, police say

Firefighter in North Carolina who was born deaf receives accommodations for EMT exam in legal settlement

A landmark settlement between Austin Freidt, a volunteer with the Cornatzer-Dulin VFD, and the North Carolina Office of Emergency Medical Services will allow Freidt to receive disability-related accommodations to take the NC Emergency Medical Technician exam and become a full-time firefighter.

La Crosse Fire Department shows off new $7.3 million station to public

PHOTO: La Crosse’s first new fire station since 1967 opened its doors to the public Thursday. Fire Station No. 2 on La Crosse Street hosted an open house, about a month after officially opening. The new building replaces a fire house on Monitor Street, which had been used since 1957. It will be the new department headquarters, which had been at Station No.

Suspect in shooting of 2 Alabama firefighters still at large; $15,000 reward offered

NFL Safety Damar Hamlin Tears Up as He Honors First Responders Who Saved His Life at ESPYS: 'It's a Blessing'

Damar Hamlin is giving the spotlight to those who helped save his life. The Buffalo Bills safety, 25, got emotional on stage at Wednesday night’s ESPY Awards as he honored the first responders who helped save his life after his cardiac arrest during a January game. Before handing them the Pat Tillman Award for Service, Hamlin told his story in a video, saying, “I didn't wake up that morning in January thinking that I would need someone to save my life that day, and I doubt that the staff thought that they had to do what they did either.
