A study published in the American Journal of Industrial Medicine found that among volunteer firefighters in the United States, there are gaps in skin cancer prevention efforts.

Jackson Kuske is a hospice patient. His care takers wanted to celebrate his 25 years of service to the Crooked Lake Volunteer Fire Department as their fire chief.

VIDEO: A fire escape collapsed at Rockwell Automation in Milwaukee on Wednesday, Aug. 16 – and two workers were hurt as a result.
When firefighters arrived on the scene around noon, they found two people that fell from the fire escape on the roof of the building.
One person suffered a broken leg – the other a broken hand.

Two pets are dead after a residential fire on the 100 block of West Scott Street in the City of Fond du Lac.
According to a release, crews from the Fond du Lac Fire & Rescue were sent to the residence shortly after 6:45 p.m. for a report of a fire in a two-story single-family home.
Upon arrival, firefighters found fire showing from a first-floor window and heavy smoke emitting from the entire building.

A law that went into effect this month in New Hampshire makes all types of cancer among firefighters a presumptive occupational disease.
The new statute is aimed at making it easier for firefighters with cancer to receive workers' compensation.
Research shows firefighters are at a higher risk of contracting the disease than the general population, and they deserve the presumption that it was caused by their work, Brian Ryll, president of the Professional Fire Fighters of New Hampshire said in an interview.

Akron, like many state and local governments, has used recent federal stimulus windfalls to grow its cash reserves during a pandemic that didn't hurt income tax receipts in the city the way some had feared.

Jean Swanson and Ann Jenkins have a combined 62 years of volunteering at the Hickory Tavern Fire Department.
“Dedicated. Loving. Friends,” said Chief Lance Roper.
Swanson joined the department 44 years ago. Since then, her husband and son have served as chief.
