Madison Firefighter Robert Henry Fleming passes away

Robert Henry Fleming, 88, of Green Bay, Mercer and Madison Wis., passed away Aug. 17, 2023, at Agrace HospiceCare in Fitchburg. He was born Sept. 14, 1934, to Edward and Marscleite (Williams) Fleming of Highland. Later the family moved to create a lively family home of 11 children on S. Henry St. in downtown Madison.

Tomah Area Ambulance Services marks anniversary by showing off new facility

PHOTOS: Tomah city leaders celebrated the 50th anniversary of the founding of the city’s ambulance service by preparing for a future with a brand new facility Saturday. The city opened the doors to the new emergency services building with an open house, guided tours and the unveiling of the Hall of Flame History Room inside the building that will house Tomah Fire Department, Tomah Area Ambulance Service and Tomah Area Emergency Medical Services.

Outagamie County first responders train for disaster

Drought fuels uptick in wildfires across Wisconsin, majority started by humans

VIDEO: The overnight rain was a welcome sight for crews who've been battling wildfires -- nearly 900 across state this year, 164 more than last year at this time. The DNR says the main reason for the uptick comes as no surprise. "We've definitely seen an uptick this year compared to even the last several years.

VIDEOS: 16 apartments destroyed by fire in South Carolina, official says

PHOTOS: More than a dozen apartments were destroyed by fire Thursday afternoon in Greenville County, South Carolina. The fire started just before 1 p.m. at the Stoneledge Plantation Apartments at the corner of Roper Mountain Road and Garlington Road. The Boiling Springs Fire Department said 16 apartments were burned and two other buildings were damaged by heat.

Deputies: Man facing charges for racing around fire truck in Florida

VIDEO: According to the Orange County Sheriff's Office, a man has been arrested after a video showed a car racing around a fire truck with lights and sirens on in April. Deputies said 25-year-old Elijah Grove-Thomas faces felony and misdemeanor charges. According to Orange County Fire Rescue, the incident happened near Sand Lake and Winegard as they responded to a car fire.

States with the most drunk driving fatalities

There were an estimated 42,795 fatalities due to motor vehicle crashes in 2022, down by 0.3% from the year prior, according to early estimates released in April 2023 from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. While a reduction in crash-related deaths, even one as slight as this, is generally positive, the facts remain deeply concerning: Crash-related deaths rose more than 10% in 2021 and more than 7% the year before that, marking a disturbing trend leading into and persisting through the COVID-19 pandemic.

Appleton post office to be renamed in honor of Firefighter Mitchell Lundgaard

Study Uncovers Gaps in Skin Cancer Prevention Among Volunteer Firefighters

A study published in the American Journal of Industrial Medicine found that among volunteer firefighters in the United States, there are gaps in skin cancer prevention efforts. Among firefighters, rates of melanoma incidence and mortality are higher than that of the general population. Former Crooked Lake fire chief honored for 25 years of service

VIDEO: A former firefighter in Crooked Lake was honored Tuesday with a parade of fire trucks and ambulances. Jackson Kuske is a hospice patient. His care takers wanted to celebrate his 25 years of service to the Crooked Lake Volunteer Fire Department as their fire chief. A parade of 18 trucks and ambulances drove past his home Tuesday, sounding their sirens and honking their horns.
