A technological meltdown disrupted airlines, banks, hospitals and emergency services on Friday.
Thousands of Microsoft users reported being suddenly knocked offline, and the culprit appeared to be cybersecurity company CrowdStrike, which had a routine software update malfunction.
“CrowdStrike is actively working with customers impacted by a defect found in a single content update for Windows hosts,” the company said in a statement.

A fire broke out at what is described as a church and learning center near 39th and Lisbon, according to the Milwaukee Fire Department.
The fire took place early Wednesday causing no reported injuries. Milwaukee fire officials tell CBS 58 that the cause is currently under investigation.
Decreased air quality and brief smoke was observed across the city in the morning, with smoke even being officially observed at Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport, reducing visibility, but conditions have since returned to normal.

A 4-year-old boy was rescued from a burning duplex by Racine firefighters on Wednesday afternoon, July 17, 2024, in a dramatic response to a Racine duplex fire on Douglas Avenue.
The Racine Fire Department responded to the 2000 block of Douglas Avenue at 2:21 p.m. for a reported bedroom fire in an upper/lower duplex apartment, according to a press release by the Racine Fire Department.

Austin Turner, the driver of the truck for Coon Creek Fire Department, was indicted by a Leslie County grand jury Monday for murder and wanton endangerment.

The Germantown Fire Department says multiple lightning strikes caused a gas leak and a structure fire on Monday, July 15.
It happened around 10 p.m. near Starlight Road and Pilgrim Road.
Crews were dispatched to the scene for reports of a tree that was on fire after being struck by lightning. When officials arrived at the scene, the tree had been extinguished by a neighbor.
