Wisconsin Public Service offering grant opportunity for emergency response agencies

Wisconsin Public Service (WPS) last week announced a grant opportunity for first responders. “No matter the challenge, first responders work tirelessly to keep our communities safe,” WPS stated. “The Wisconsin Public Service (WPS) Foundation is supporting these courageous men and women by offering $50,000 through its Rewarding Responders Grant to area emergency response agencies.

Two killed in semi versus car crash in Chippewa County

A 38-year-old rural Cadott woman and her 13-year-old son were killed when the woman's 2004 Chevy Monte Carlo hit a semi truck and trailer head-on on Hwy. 29 near Chippewa Falls. The crash happened at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 10, on Hwy. 29, east of 190th Street, in the town of Lafayette, in Chippewa County, according to the Chippewa County Sheriff's Office.

Illinois apartment fire displaces 22 residents; Pleasant Prairie among fire departments to respond

Fire displaced 22 residents of an apartment complex in Zion, Ill., just south of the Wisconsin-Illinois border Monday. The incident was reported at 2:50 p.m. and upon arrival, firefighters discovered heavy smoke and fire coming from the single-story building in the 1700 block of Joanna Ave., according to a release from Battalion Chief Rocco Campanella of the City of Zion’s Fire & Rescue Department.

VIDEO: Massive fire destroys barn in Maryland causing $1.5M in damages, fire officials say

A massive fire destroyed a barn late Monday night in Dickerson, Maryland. Approximately $1.5 million in damages was caused by the fire, according to Montgomery County Fire officials. Fire officials say no one was injured in the fire and 65 firefighters responded to the scene to battle the blaze. The incident occurred at 511 Peach Tree Road near Barnesville Road and firefighters extinguished the fire.

115 Texas firefighters potentially exposed to asbestos at May 6th warehouse blaze

Ohio fire district wants title to firehouse building to pursue upgrades

Man charged after allegedly biting firefighter during structure fire in West Virginia

A man has been charged after allegedly biting a firefighter during a structure fire in Adrian. ATF: Arsonists targeted same Milwaukee home twice in 4 weeks

Combustibles near space heater suspected in Manitowoc duplex fire

The American Red Cross is helping a family of seven after a fire damaged a Manitowoc duplex early Monday morning. The fire department was alert to the fire on the 3300-block of Mero St. at 4:11 A.M. A caller reported flames coming from a window and her husband was alerting the people who lived in the other half of the duplex.

1 arrested in Stoughton laundromat fire

A 27-year-old man was arrested following a weekend fire at a Stoughton laundromat. According to the Stoughton Fire Dept., firefighters could see smoke and flames coming from the Viking Laundry, in the 1400 block of Main Street, as they arrived shortly after midnight. They were able to knock down the fire within 15 minutes of being called, however the building suffered “some fire damage and extensive smoke damage,” the fire department reported.

Three private ambulance companies helping Milwaukee's 911 service are stretched to the max

Three private ambulance companies help service the city of Milwaukee's 911 calls, designed to allow the Milwaukee Fire Department paramedics to focus on the most life-threatening calls. Bell, Curtis, and Paratech Ambulance companies handle what are called basic life support 911 calls, sprains, strains, and other minor injuries.

Milwaukee facing ambulance shortage after company drops out

The ambulance service board is set to meet at 9 a.m. Monday morning. They're expected to discuss the pending departure of a private ambulance service. Midwest Medical, who owns Paratech Ambulance, recently sent a letter to Acting Fire Chief Aaron Lipski, terminating their contract with the city. They're one of three private ambulance services used by the city to handle 911 calls.

Fire destroys new sawmill near Cornell

Firefighters from seven different departments spent five hours Saturday battling a fire at a new sawmill near Cornell, in northwestern Wisconsin. Cornell Assistant Fire Chief Matt Boulding said investigators believe a piece of equipment inside the sawmill malfunctioned started the Blaze. Boulding said the building is a complete loss.

Firefighter shortage poses problem as number of California fires continues to rise

Firefighters’ lawsuit over cargo ship blasts in Florida moves to federal court

U.S. COVID cases down 30% over past two weeks as country averages 2 million shots per day

The rate of average daily new COVID cases in the U.S. fell to below 41,000 over the weekend, down 30% from two weeks ago and the lowest level since September, Johns Hopkins University data showed. The country has reported an average of 2 million vaccinations per day over the past week, according to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention data, down 40% from its peak level.

Madison firefighters put out car fire on I-39

In just 12 minutes, Madison firefighters put out a car fire that temporarily shut down a lane of I-39 Sunday afternoon, according to Madison Fire Department. According to WisDOT, the right northbound lane of I-39 at Cottage Grove Rd closed around 2 p.m. due to a car fire. The Madison Fire Department (MFD) said firefighters responded to a fire that started in the car’s engine.
