The Delton Fire Department promotes three volunteer members to new positions.
Mitchell Piotrowski was promoted to captain of the Charlie Company. Capt. Piotrowski has served on the fire department for more than eight years completing numerous fire service trainings and certifications.
Jason Marten has been promoted to lieutenant of the Alpha Company.

VIDEO: A firefighting helicopter crashed into a marsh near Leesburg Airport in during a training exercise around 4 p.m. on Tuesday, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.
The Leesburg Police Department said the four people on board were from a company called Firehawk Helicopters, a fire suppression company.

VIDEO: The first responders who warned Selden residents after sirens failed during Monday’s tornado saved lives, an official said Tuesday.
A power outage caused the city’s sirens to fail just moments before the tornado hit town. Sheridan County Fire Department Capt. Micah Goscha and two other volunteer firefighters acted as the backup warning, driving around town in two fire trucks and using the PA system and sirens to tell people to take shelter.

VIDEO: A fire broke out at a liquor store early Wednesday in Compton, officials reported.
The fire erupted about 5:45 a.m. at the liquor store located at 2430 E. Alondra Blvd., according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
Video from Sky5 showed firefighters battling the blaze from outside of the building, with flames and smoking emanating from the roof.

VIDEO: Firefighters raced to the scene of a north Austin city-owned warehouse fire on the afternoon of May 6, arriving within five minutes of the first call.
But it wasn’t until a third alarm unit arrived a little over an hour later that crews were told the smoke swirling around the warehouse could be laced with asbestos, according to internal city documents obtained by KXAN that reveal new details of the incident that potentially exposed 115 firefighters and civilians to the cancer-causing building material.

As the employment of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) increases, a recent report has named North Dakota as the state most prepared for commercial drone use.
North Dakota has dedicated time and money to researching, designing, and providing the necessary tools for widespread drone use. UAVs can be deployed very effectively for a broad range of applications, including aerial imaging, emergency rescue, and delivery of goods, but, in some cases, legal issues have slowed their adoption.

A firefighter/paramedic helped get a plastic bag off a crane’s head.
The fire department says a person called concerned the crane may walk into traffic. The department posted on Facebook, “So, one of our Firefighter/Paramedics, using hand-eye coordination developed from years of playing baseball, was able to safely approach the crane and remove the plastic bag from around its head and neck.

VIDEO: A massive fire damaged a South Nashville apartment complex Monday night, displacing residents and impacting at least 18 units.
Emergency crews were called to the Brentwood Oaks Apartments around 8:15 p.m. before firefighters called for additional personnel to help manage the scene. The fire destroyed the entire third floor of the building and most of the second floor.

As a way to help with emergencies on town trails, the Fire Department has started on a trail-marking project.
Firefighter Christopher Fusco has been spearheading the project for over four years and first implemented it at Crescent Lake with the help of Firefighter Ryan Pulver.
The markers are placed about every hundred feet.

They say it only takes a few minutes for a car to get extremely hot.
“Even for that short 10 or 15-minute run into the grocery store, don’t do it, it’s that simple,” South Milwaukee Fire Chief Joseph Knitter said.

Firefighters report improperly discarded firepit ashes are to blame for a house fire Saturday on Madison’s northeast side that caused an estimated $25,000 in damage.
City of Madison Fire Department crews arrived at 7:15 p.m. to a home on the 6200 block of Dominion Drive for a fire. According to MFD’s report, firefighters found a neighbor when they arrived who was extinguishing the fire with a garden hose.

VIDEO: A fire ripped through row houses in Yonkers on one of the hottest days of the year so far, displacing nearly 100 people and injuring more than a dozen firefighters as well as one resident.
The blaze appeared to have started Sunday afternoon in the backyard of one home on Maple Street but it quickly spread to four nearby houses, according to fire officials and witnesses.

A 26-year veteran of Polk County Fire Rescue became the first woman to be promoted to the rank of deputy chief, the county announced this week.
Jennifer Huff will serve in the planning division, according to a release.
“Deputy Chief Huff’s promotion is a huge milestone for Polk County Fire Rescue,” Fire Chief Robert Weech said in a statement.

A plume of smoke soon loomed over the Houston skyline and lingered there for three days. A fatal fire is under investigation, according to the Grand Chute Fire Department.
On Saturday at 8:39 a.m., the Grand Chute Fire Department, Appleton Fire Department, and Fox Crossing Fire Department were dispatched to 2323 E. Wisconsin Ave. for a report of smoke in the house.
When crews entered the home, they reported smoke in the building with no flames present.
