One person dead after crash with semi in Marathon County

One person diedTuesday night in a crash with a semi in Marathon County. Deputies responded around 9:30 p.m. to the intersection of Highway 29 and Bass Lake Road in the town of Norrie, according to the Marathon County Sheriff’s Office. Officials said an SUV was going north on Bass Lake Road and tried to cross Highway 29 without yielding.

Woman dead, 2 men hospitalized after apartment fire in New York

VIDEO: A woman has died, a man is in critical condition and another man is hospitalized after a multi-alarm blaze at an apartment building in the Bronx early Wednesday morning. Fire broke out on the third floor of the building in the 3200 block of Park Avenue just before 5 a.m. and quickly went to three alarms.

Atlanta firefighters targeted for vandalism while on call

VIDEO: Atlanta firefighters early Tuesday morning got a radio call. They jumped into the engine after midnight for the run. A thief decided it was time to go to work. Someone jumped a compromised portion of back fencing at Atlanta Fire Station 2 located along Jonesboro Road and went after the personal vehicles of the first responders.

Person with garden hose spotted trying to help crews take down Los Angeles fire

Connecticut father, daughter attend fire school together to become certified firefighters

Demolition of Menasha's Whiting Paper Mill has begun due to safety concerns

On Tuesday sections of the historic Whiting Paper Mill building in Menasha started to be demolished. But city leaders say the potential changes coming to the lakefront property could benefit the community. Out of safety concerns for the public, many of whom were getting too close for law enforcement's comfort, the Whiting Paper Mill started to be demolished on Tuesday.

Fire at Eau Claire bar causes $200K worth of damage

An Eau Claire bar is still cleaning up following a fire Monday morning. Firefighters responded to the Alibi Lounge on South Esmond Road around 4:30. The fire caused about $200,000 worth of damage. Firefighters responded following what callers described as an explosion. Though no civilians were hurt in the fire, one firefighter did go to the hospital with a medical emergency.

Wisconsin's 'Roller Coaster' Wildfire Season in 2021 Is Still Going

Wildfires in Wisconsin have burned nearly 1,800 acres of land so far in 2021, more than all of 2020, with more than a month to go in the typical wildfire season. "This year has been a roller coaster," said Catherine Koele, wildfire prevention specialist with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, pointing to lighter than usual snowpack in the northern part of the state that led to an earlier start to the wildfire season.

New Berlin Fire Department Responds to 3 Serious Car Crashes In 24 Hours

New Berlin Fire Department and paramedics responded to three serious car crashes within 24 hours on Sunday. The first one occurred at 9:24 a.m. on NB I-43 at Beloit Road where a female driver left the roadway rolling her vehicle over several times coming to rest on the roof in the median. She was extricated through the rear window and was transported to Froedtert Trauma Center, according to fire officials.

3 Hurt in Texas Crash as Tornado Crosses I-35E Near Waxahachie

VIDEO: Three people were hospitalized late Monday after vehicles collided as a tornado crossed Interstate 35E near Waxahachie, authorities say. The incident involved a "possible fatality" and happened at I-35E and Johnston Road, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety. The drivers of three tractor-trailers involved in the crash were taken to Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Waxahachie.

Virginia fire department gives monumental assist to flag atop Iwo Jima Memorial

Volunteer firefighting programs vanishing in larger Indiana departments

Drones: Fighting Emergencies From the Air in South Florida

Bill to help first responders suffering from PTSD passes South Carolina House

A bill that would help first responders suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PSTD) is closer to becoming law in South Carolina. Unlike a physical injury, mental illnesses or mental injuries are not covered under workers’ compensation. House bill 3939 will allow first responders like firefighters and law enforcement to receive workers compensation if diagnosed with a stress-related and mental illness caused by a traumatic event while on duty.

Oshkosh: Arson Awareness Week is May 2nd- 8th

Cause of massive Wausau area fire still under investigation

The SAFER Fire Department said more than 150 firefighters aided in the response to a fire reported at Gundman’s Garage in Wausau Saturday afternoon. Both SAFER and Marathon Fire initially responded around 3:17 p.m. Saturday with many more departments joining in during the eight-hour response. Investigators said six buildings were lost in the fire, but two homes were saved as a result of the joint effort.

Firefighters battle at least 15 suspicious building fires in Indiana

VIDEO: At least 15 buildings in Gary, Indiana were on fire overnight, forcing firefighters to call backup. At least a dozen different fire departments were at the scene and battled structural fires, according to the Highland Fire Department on its Facebook page. One of the houses that had already been boarded up had its roof cave in due to a fire.

Study: Volunteer Firefighters Have Higher Levels of 'Forever Chemicals'

Volunteer firefighters — who comprise more than 65 percent of the U.S. fire service — have higher levels of “forever chemicals,” per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), in their bodies than the general public, according to a Rutgers study. The study, which was published in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health, compared the levels of nine PFAS chemicals in the blood of volunteer firefighters against levels in the general population.

Florida firefighters welcome 7 babies during pandemic

VIDEO: Firefighters in one Florida city have clearly been sparking some flames at home. Seven Orlando firefighters have transitioned from fighting fires to pacifiers as they’ve become dads over the past few months. The Orlando Fire Department welcomed three baby girls and four boys during the pandemic and happily reported all moms, dads and babies are doing well.
