‘I had no choice but to go for the gun’: Florida first responders sprang into action

VIDEO: About four seconds was the difference between life and death on May 31 when an unconscious man awoke to Manatee County medical first responders trying to help him and pulled out a loaded gun. “I had no choice but to go for the gun,” said Manatee County Paramedic Carlos Santos. Santos’ quick reaction, along with his partner, EMT Joe Savasta, and nearby sheriff’s deputies, prevented what could have been a tragic day.

School resource officer in Kentucky restores toy fire trucks for kids

VIDEO: Joe Saunier, a school resource officer in Frankfort is restoring old toy fire trucks for children in need. “When you get to see the children's faces. You know, it means a lot right there,” Saunier said. For the past few years, Officer Saunier has been restoring old fire trucks for children who undergo difficult situations, with some of those fire trucks being over fifty years old.

Iowa fire department brings home history with 100-year-old truck

VIDEO/PHOTOS: The Waverly Fire Department has a new home for a truck previously used in the department 100 years ago. The American LaFrance was the first "new" truck used by Waverly Fire in 1921. After the truck retired service it was sold to Redfield, Iowa, who then later sold it to Dale Miracle. After that, it stayed with a family in Indianola for sixty years.

Milwaukee house fire extinguished, no injuries sustained

Firefighters on Monday night, June 21 responded to the scene of a house fire near 9th and Keefe. As crews battled the fire they covered a neighboring home in water to keep the flames from spreading. Milwaukee fire officials say the fire caused property damage only. No residents or firefighters were injured.

Third and fourth swimmer pulled from Racine lakefront days after 2 drowning deaths

Man in Richland County drowns in Wisconsin River while fishing

A man died Saturday after he fell into the Wisconsin River while fishing, Richland County authorities said. Officials said they got a call shortly before 6 p.m. Saturday reporting a potential drowning in the river near the Gotham Boat Landing. Witnesses told dispatchers they saw the man fall into river before the current pulled him under.

Massive fire rips through New Jersey grocery store

Unvaccinated Americans are at risk of a possibly more dangerous COVID-19 variant

Brown County community rallying around one of its volunteer firefighters

A southern Brown County community is rallying around one of its volunteer firefighters. A few months ago, 27-year old Dillon Steinfeldt had surgery to remove a brain tumor and he is now undergoing radiation, with chemotherapy on the horizon. It was last fall when Dillon, who works for Wiese Farms in Greenleaf and serves on the community’s fire department, started to realize something wasn’t right.

Middleton house considered total loss after fire; no one hurt

Firefighters responded to a house fire in Middleton early Monday morning. Dane County Sheriff Deputies said the call came in at 3:39 a.m. in the 3800 block of Bay Laurel Lane. When crews first arrived, they found flames in the garage that were spreading to the rest of the home. Firefighters said the house is a loss, but all of the family and pets made it out safely.

Illinois fire department creates 'library boxes' to spread the word on safety

But there’s more, with a pandemic silver lining bonus: During the past year, with everything closed down, the Buffalo Ghostbusters — one of about 200 fan franchises across the country — were trying to stay active with their ectoplasmic activities while staying distant.
