Amani Smith was sentenced to life in prison Monday, July 12, in Waukesha.
The 22-year-old was convicted a few weeks ago in the murder of Dennis Huelse.
Huelse was killed in 2019. Investigators found a knife in his neck.
Amani Smith was also convicted of setting fire to Huelse's house and stealing his 1969 Pontiac Firebird.

Firefighters on Monday morning, July 12 responded to the scene of an apartment fire near 38th and Good Hope Road in Milwaukee. The call came in around 4:50 a.m.
The fire started on the second floor and was contained quickly.
One man was injured and taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation. He is in serious condition.

A Kimberly woman was killed, and four other people were injured in a crash Saturday in Manitowoc County.
Deputies responded around 4 p.m. to a two-vehicle crash at Highway 42 and County VV in the town of Two Rivers, according to the Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff’s office officials said Kristen VandeVoort, 31, of Kimberly was driving a 2010 Chevy Impala east on County VV when the vehicle didn’t stop at a stop sign at the intersection and was hit by a 2019 Dodge Ram going south that was driven by George Dearborn, 71, of Appleton.

Three feet of water was in the basement of the Monongahela Fire Department after Thursday’s rainstorm.
Images posted to the fire department’s Facebook page showed how bad the flooding was. Crews are now in clean-up mode and searching for answers. On Friday, restoration crews tore down drywall and pulled out soaked insulation.

26-year-old Corey Spencer, a firefighter with the Pinecroft Sedgefield Fire Department, is now regaining strength in a rehabilitation center after spending 41 days hospitalized with 33 days in the ICU, on a ventilator, and in and out of a coma.

Officials say four people, including two children, have been displaced following an overnight house fire in Forest Junction.
According to Fire Chief Carl Weber, crews were called to N8811 Church Street at 3 a.m. for a report of a fully involved house fire.
When they arrived, they found flames coming out of the home and through the roof.

The La Crosse Fire Department will assume administration of the Holmen Area Fire Department for a year under a resolution the La Crosse Common Council approved Thursday night.
Council members Mark Neumann and Doug Happel characterized the approval, at a cost of $14,583.33 a month to the Holmen district, as one of the most important actions the council took Thursday, if not stretching back further.

Two people were injured and arrested after a crash near 40th and North Thursday evening, July 8 involving a vehicle that was fleeing police.
According to police, the fleeing vehicle crashed into a house just before 6 p.m. after striking a parked vehicle.
There were people inside the house but none were hurt.

Firefighters responding to a house fire in the Town of Lakewood Thursday morning found a burn victim outside the home and a man dead inside.
The Oconto County Sheriff’s Office says the fire was reported on Big Bear Lane at 6:33 A.M. The house was engulfed when firefighters arrived. As they fought to put out the fire, firefighters rescued a 74-year-old woman who had suffered burns and found a 78-year-old man inside.

The three people who died in a house fire in northern Wisconsin have been identified as a mother and her two teenage daughters.
According to police, 36-year-old Jordan Chowning, 14-year-old Alyssa Chowning and 17-year-old Michelle Hathaway died Monday when fire swept through their home in Ashland.
One adult and two other children escaped the fire and a third adult who was away at the time returned to find the house ablaze.
