Spirit of Oklahoma firetruck returns to Oklahoma soil

VIDEO: The Spirit of Oklahoma firetruck just completed its journey from the northeast all the way back to its home state of Oklahoma. It’s a truck that connects fire departments from here at home all the way to New York City. After 9/11, this truck was given as a gift from the state of Oklahoma to the New York City Fire Department for their sacrifice and strength.

Madison home, RV sustain serious damage in fire

A residential and RV fire on Madison’s north side caused more than $200,000 in damage early Wednesday morning. Fire officials said crews were dispatched to the 1100 block of Shasta Drive around 12:20 a.m. for a report of a structure and RV fire. Neighbors called 911 after noticing an “orange glow” outside of their home.

Madison Fire Dept. says spontaneous combustion of rags to blame for garage fire

Investigators with the Madison Fire Department say rags and painting materials that weren’t thrown away correctly are to blame for a garage fire on the city’s far east side Wednesday. The fire department was called to Alton Drive near the Highway 30/I-90/94 interchange just after 1:30 p.m. Wednesday after a homeowner returned home to find alarms sounding and smoke coming from the front door.

Racine man fighting for his life after falling 35 feet while volunteering at Camp Anokijig

Steve Leger gives all his energy to his family, friends and community. From volunteering as an assistant Boy Scouts leader for 15 years, to working as a firefighter-paramedic for nearly 30 years, Leger was born to take care of others. “My dad is one of the most giving persons I’ve met, with his time, his money and his love and support,” said 21-year-old Zach Leger, one of Steve’s sons.

Huge Michigan propane tank explosion caught on video, flaming debris narrowly misses firefighter

VIDEO: A firefighter approaching a blaze in the garage of a West Michigan home was sent running in the opposite direction after a propane tank ignited. The ensuing blast was caught on camera, showing the emergency responder staggering backward and a massive explosion from the home. The footage, released by the Plainfield Township Fire Department district chief on Monday, showed the flames traveling from the garage to the rest of the home after firefighters arrived.

Student-designed device could soon be protecting homes from fires

Most of us can't afford homes with fire-extinguishing sprinklers built into the ceiling … and that's where FACE is designed to come in. It's a self-contained, heat-activated fire suppression device that's mounted in the user's home, wherever it's most likely to be needed. Its name an acronym for Fire Activated Canister Extinguisher, FACE was invented by San Francisco high school student Arul Mathur.

New fire chief selected in Beaver Dam

Beaver Dam has a new fire chief. Without discussion, the city’s police and fire commission unanimously voted to approve Michael Wesle as the new fire chief for the city fire and rescue department. Wesle was previously a lieutenant with the Rhinelander Fire Department after many years of experience. He replaces Alan Mannel, who retired in April.

Milwaukee south side crash; driver sought, 3 injured

The Milwaukee Police Department is investigating a fiery crash that occurred early Monday, July 5 near Cesar Chavez Drive and Washington Street around 12:50 a.m. One driver rear-ended another, and the impact caused the striking car to then hit a pole. The driver of the other car, a 49-year-old woman, and passengers of that car, a 77-year-old woman and a 7-year-old boy, sustained non-life-threatening injuries; all transported to a hospital for treatment.

Fatal house fire in Ashland; 3 dead, 3 others escape to safety

Authorities say three people were killed in a house fire Monday morning in the northern Wisconsin town of Ashland. The Ashland Police Department said firefighters and police responded shortly after 9:30 a.m., when they discovered that three people had escaped the burning house. Three bodies were later found inside.

Fourth generation firefighter plans to make diversity a priority as Milwaukee's new fire chief

Brothers from different fire departments battle fire at Chemtool Plant in Illinois side-by-side

Two of the heroic firefighters who responded to the devastating fire at the Chemtool Plant in Rockton, Illinois nearly three weeks ago said the events of June 14th will be etched into their family history. 20-year-old Wyatt Bomkamp is a new recruit to the Janesville Fire Department. His engine responded to the fire at Chemtool, a grease manufacturing plant, as the initial explosions were taking place that Monday morning.

Meet Wausau's new fire chief, an Owen native who is passionate about the fire service

When Robert Barteck was 7 years old, his father became a volunteer firefighter in Owen. Now Barteck is the new Wausau Fire Department chief, taking over after the retirement of Chief Tracey Kujawa in April. He will be overseeing the $8.1 million budget and 62 employees. The department's three stations together respond to about 6,800 calls a year.

Oklahoma City bombing first responder has special memento for survivor he has never met

Wish granted for Georgia boy battling leukemia to suit up as firefighter for a day

VIDEO: The City of Marietta Fire Department swore in their youngest recruit on Friday: a 4-year-old cancer patient from Augusta. Bubba Diedrich was diagnosed with leukemia a year ago. The fire department teamed up with the Make A Wish foundation to make his dream of being a firefighter possible. “I, Bubba, hereby swear that I will have all the fun a 4-year-old can have,” the proclamation said.
