Third and fourth swimmer pulled from Racine lakefront days after 2 drowning deaths

First responders raced to Racine's lakefront for the third time in as many days to rescue two more swimmers in trouble Monday, June 21. This followed the drowning deaths of two other children, a 10-year-old and 17-year-old. Emergency crews responded to an area of North Beach near the Racine Yacht Club pier.

Man in Richland County drowns in Wisconsin River while fishing

A man died Saturday after he fell into the Wisconsin River while fishing, Richland County authorities said. Officials said they got a call shortly before 6 p.m. Saturday reporting a potential drowning in the river near the Gotham Boat Landing. Witnesses told dispatchers they saw the man fall into river before the current pulled him under.

Massive fire rips through New Jersey grocery store

Unvaccinated Americans are at risk of a possibly more dangerous COVID-19 variant

About 45.2% of the US population is fully vaccinated against COVID-19, CDC data showed, and in 16 states and Washington, DC, that proportion is up to more than half, and 16 have reached President Joe Biden's goal to vaccinate 70% of adults with at least one dose.

Brown County community rallying around one of its volunteer firefighters

A southern Brown County community is rallying around one of its volunteer firefighters. A few months ago, 27-year old Dillon Steinfeldt had surgery to remove a brain tumor and he is now undergoing radiation, with chemotherapy on the horizon. It was last fall when Dillon, who works for Wiese Farms in Greenleaf and serves on the community’s fire department, started to realize something wasn’t right.

Middleton house considered total loss after fire; no one hurt

Firefighters responded to a house fire in Middleton early Monday morning. Dane County Sheriff Deputies said the call came in at 3:39 a.m. in the 3800 block of Bay Laurel Lane. When crews first arrived, they found flames in the garage that were spreading to the rest of the home. Firefighters said the house is a loss, but all of the family and pets made it out safely.

VIDEO: More than 70 people displaced following massive house fire in North Carolina

Illinois fire department creates 'library boxes' to spread the word on safety

'By the grace of God': Madison homeowner's quick actions save his house and himself after grill fire

Madison resident Jonathan Woods has just minor burns on his arm to show after his grill caught fire earlier this week. Woods suspects a faulty regulator was the reason for the fire, which shot from beneath the grill into his face before overtaking the grill itself. “I came out, opened the grill up, looked underneath, opened the tank up, listened very carefully just to make sure there was no leak or anything,” Woods said Saturday.

Wildfire fire risk remains high across large portions of Wisconsin

Wisconsin is still facing drier-than-normal conditions, making wildfires more of a risk, and there are steps people can take to avoid inadvertently sparking one. Follow Up: Madison's Fire Department Tests Out Hybrid Fire Truck

A fire truck that performs in much the same way as its diesel-powered counterparts but boasts zero net carbon emissions is currently being piloted by the Madison Fire Department. Although the Pierce Volterra zero-emissions pumper won't be ready for a full rollout until about 2023, the Madison Fire Department is partnering with the truck's maker, Pierce Manufacturing, a subsidiary of the Oshkosh Corp.

Petition drafted for towns under Milton's joint fire department to join Edgerton Fire Protection District

The Milton Town Board during a special meeting Thursday night received a draft petition from the town attorney and board chairman in which the town of Milton asks the Edgerton Fire Protection District Board to allow the town to join the district. The draft could be modified to change the name of the town in the document so the others currently covered by the Milton Joint Fire Commission—Lima, Johnstown and Harmony—could use it, too.

Fond du Lac firefighters battle fire at smoke shop

Fond du Lac firefighters are investigating the cause of a fire at a smoke shop Thursday morning. At 7:39 a.m., Fond du Lac Fire Rescue responded to Big Jay’s Smoke Shop at 111 S. Main Street. Crews found smoke inside the three-story mixed use building. Fire was located on the first floor inside the smoke shop.
