Firefighters go beyond the call of duty to rescue deer at UWSP campus

PHOTOS: The Stevens Point Fire Department encountered a rather unusual damsel in distress Monday morning. Around 11 a.m. first responders were called to the University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point campus for deer trapped in a hole. The hole is inside a fenced area under construction in Lot J. Crews were able to restrain, secure, and free the deer from its predicament.

Mid-State Technical College, NCRTAC to host EMS field training in Wisconsin Rapids

Mid-State Technical College and the North Central Regional Trauma Advisory Council (NCRTAC) invite emergency services personnel to the NCRTAC Fall EMS Field Training Day. The training will be held on Saturday, September 7, from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Mid-State’s Wisconsin Rapids Campus. There will be four hands-on technical skills practice scenarios at this training event led by current EMS and fire department professionals.

Caught on Camera: Equipment stolen from fire department in Washington

VIDEO: A fire department in Pierce County is now missing tens of thousands of dollars’ worth of gear after it was stolen in the middle of the night last week. And whoever did it may be connected to another crime that same night, just a few miles away. More than $30,000 worth of fire gear and equipment was stolen from the Key Peninsula Fire Department last Thursday.

Firefighters union in Texas backs mental health rescue plan

Located in North Carolina, one of the country’s first all-electric fire stations will use no outside energy sources

Charlotte, N.C.’s new Fire Station #30 will be one of the country’s first all-electric fire stations, using no outside energy sources other than diesel fuel for one or two of the fire trucks. Multiple energy sources will power the station, including solar roof panels and geothermal wells. The two-story building features three truck bays, two fire poles, dispatch area, contamination room, and gear storage.

'Burned' documentary sparks awareness about firefighting gear awash in carcinogenic water repellent chemicals

Maps show Tropical Storm Debby's path and forecast

VIDEO: Tropical Storm Debby was moving slowly early Tuesday, bringing torrential downpours across parts of southeastern Georgia and coastal South Carolina, the National Hurricane Center said. Debby first hit land Monday morning as a Category 1 hurricane over Florida's Big Bend coast. As of 8 a.m. EDT Tuesday, Debby's center was some 30 miles southwest of Savannah, Georgia and 105 miles southwest of Charleston, South Carolina and was moving northeast at 9 mph, with maximum sustained winds of 45 mph, the National Hurricane Center said.

Madison: CampHERO camp teaches young girls about protective services

VIDEO: CampHERO, a non-profit organization, is putting on a camp this week to bridge the gap for girls entering protective services. Lorlei, 10, is a third year camper who was at the camp Monday. She said that she knows what career she wants to pursue when she is older. “What makes me think that I want to be a policeman or firefighter when I’m older is because of the fact that you can do things that save people’s lives and make an impact,” said Lorlei.

Crews investigating cause of house fire in Merrill

VIDEO: Saturday evening the Merrill Fire Department was dispatched for reported smoke coming from a home located on Genesee Street in the City of Merrill. Upon arrival, the Merrill Fire Department was met with significant fire and smoke coming from the first and lower levels of the home. With the assistance of several area fire departments, crews were able to quickly extinguish the fire and prevent any damage to surrounding homes.

EPA grant might fund new Superior fire station and more broadband access

Watertown Fire Chief Shares Her Career Background

The city of Watertown hired Tanya Reynen to be their new fire chief in March and she started her role in April. Reynen says she wanted to follow in the footsteps of her father as a volunteer firefighter. “So, I started out as a volunteer just like my dad and after a couple of years of getting my initial certifications, I started looking for jobs and working part-time, and then I was hired at the Watertown Fire Department as my first career,” says Reynen.

VIDEO: 4 firefighters taken to hospital after fire truck overturns in Indianapolis

Police reported to a crash on the intersection of East 30th Street and North Hawthorne Lane just before 11:30 a.m. Aug. 3. IFD Battalion Chief Rita Reith told 13News that the firefighters were heading to a nearby fatal crash on Massachusetts Avenue and East 30th Street when their truck overturned.

Shot fired at Colorado ambulance by man who ran out of burning house

Plane makes emergency landing at California golf course, crashes into pro shop

Baseus power bank that caused Michigan house fire recalled across U.S.

VIDEO/PHOTO: After a wireless phone charger from Baseus caught fire in Farmington Hills last February, a nationwide investigation was launched. As a result, approximately 132,000 Baseus Magnetic Wireless Charging Power Banks have been recalled across the United States as of June 27. "The lithium-ion battery in the power banks can overheat, posing a fire hazard," according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).

Retired fire chief gets big honors after serving Door County for decades

VIDEO: He spent more than four decades on the job and now retired Fire Chief Niles Weborg is getting more recognition. Niles Weborg was a Ephraim village firefighter since 1959. "I married the fire chief's daughter in Ephraim and inherited the fire department along with her,” Weborg joked. Niles was the fire chief from 1981 until 2015.

Fort Atkinson Fire Department inducts, promotes members

Fort Atkinson city officials announced Wednesday that the Fort Atkinson Fire Department on Tuesday held an induction and promotional ceremony. The event was held at the Fort Atkinson fire station. Among those sworn in were: firefighters/EMT-advanced Josh Bull and Brandon Rogneby, captains Michael Lawson and Michael Vorpahl, Division Chief Robbie Allard, and Fire Chief Bruce Peterson, who was hired to fill the role in February.

A firefighter was injured in a massive fire that destroyed a church, causing the roof to collapse, Thursday afternoon in Carroll County.
