Volunteer firefighter Jeff Westphal is getting used to being back in the Slinger Fire Department.
It’s the place where he almost lost his life. Westphal was preparing to go out on a call on the morning of July 27 for a carbon monoxide detector activation.
“Just going to another call, mindset same as always,” said Westphal.

VIDEO: A home in the Town of Bristol is a total loss after a early morning fire, according to Dane County Dispatch.
Crews from Sun Prairie, Columbus, Madison and Dane Fire Departments as well as Dane County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the fire Thursday at about 1:55 a.m.
The house in the 2000 block of Branch Road was fully engulfed when crews arrived, and no one was inside.

A fire Wednesday afternoon in the basement of a south side La Crosse home causes those who lived there to find shelter elsewhere.
La Crosse Fire Captain Tom Griffith said they were called to the home at 3507 Meadow Lane Place just before 1:30 p.m.
The residents who lived there said black smoke was coming from the basement.

Screenshots shared to Facebook show submerged gear and equipment, estimated to be thousands of dollars in damages.
The department tells News 12 that at no point was its ability to answer emergency calls impacted, and the cleanup process is already underway.

VIDEO: A Virginia family gets closure 45 years later after their loved ones' remains have been identified and returned following the remains being found in the Kentucky River.
It was a normal training exercise for the Lexington Fire Department on October 22, 2016. Several dive teams spent the day removing vehicles from the Kentucky River off Old Tates Creek Road near Valley View Ferry.

Firefighters were called to 144 Thomson Lane to battle the blaze.
No one was home when the fire started.
While one pet died, crews were able to locate and rescue two other pets and reunited them with the family.

The Beaver Dam Fire Department recently received a grant from a new business that is coming to the city. The Generac Foundation has awarded the department $2,500. Fire Chief Michael Wesle explains what the grant dollars will be used for.

The Appleton Fire Department released a statement on Tuesday regarding a fire that occurred in the 4900 block of North Applebend Drive.
Shortly after noon, firefighters were sent to the location after a call indicated smoke coming from the garage of a single-story home. The fire department was able to bring it under control within 20 minutes.

A mulch fire burning on Detroit's west side could take days to fully extinguish, according to firefighters.
The fire at Detroit Mulch on Prairie Street near Lyndon and Livernois started Tuesday night. Crews continued to battle large flames Wednesday morning.
Heavy smoke from the fire has led to calls from areas miles away from the mulch business.

The Vincennes Township Fire Department recently purchased an AQUAEYE handheld sonar device.
Fire Chief Tim Smith said it uses new technology that will help them determine when they’ve located a person in the water, rather than an object.

VIDEO: Firefighters from the Beacon Falls Fire Department successfully rescued nineteen people and a dog from the Brookside Inn Restaurant during Sunday’s severe flooding.
On Sunday, the restaurant was surrounded by five to ten inches of water.
With Oxford fire crews occupied with other emergency calls, the Beacon Hose Fire Department intervened using an aerial approach.

BMW is recalling more than 720,000 vehicles due to an issue with the water pump's electrical connector that could potentially lead to a fire.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said that the recall includes some X1, X3 and X5 vehicles as well as some other models.
The impacted vehicles have water pumps with insufficient sealing, according to the NHTSA report, and may be susceptible to fluid ingress at the electrical plug connector over time.
