The state is moving forward with efforts to collect and dispose of roughly 25,000 gallons of firefighting foam that contain harmful forever chemicals known as PFAS.
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is partnering with the Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection to accept bids for the state’s PFAS-containing firefighting foam collection and disposal program.

The victim in a fatal motorcycle crash last week has been identified as Eugene Faust, a 2021 graduate of Union Grove High School and a current volunteer firefighter. Faust, 18, of Union Grove, died July 14 at Froedtert Hospital in Wauwatosa, where he was taken after crashing on his motorcycle the night before on State Highway 11.

Northwood Technical College invites the media to attend a demonstration and competition from area youth who are participating in a Fired up for the Future Post 343 Firefighting/EMS/Leadership camp at Chippewa Valley Council Camp Phillips in Haugen, WI on Thursday, August 11 at 9:30 a.m.
The competition is the culmination of a five-day camp, which is focused on teaching seventh through 12th graders rescue skills in firefighting, emergency medical services and leadership.

State employees in Colorado will now be able to receive paid administrative leave to respond to a fire as a volunteer firefighter or first responder.
Gov. Jared Polis signed the executive order authorizing all state agencies and departments to provide up to five days of additional paid leave for these state employees on Wednesday morning.

Communication is key, especially in medical emergencies, but when a patient has a disability affecting their speech or can't communicate because of a sudden medical crisis, first responders have trouble finding out the best way to help the patient in need.
The Peoria Area Speech-Language Hearing Association, or PASHA for short, is partnering with Advanced Medical Transport and the Peoria Area EMS to create more than 200 Augmentative and Alternative Communication Boards for emergency responders.

VIDEO: A dog nicknamed Aquaman is lucky to be alive after being rescued by a good Samaritan and officials from the New York Fire Department when it was reportedly thrown off a bridge and into the Harlem River.
The distressing incident occurred on Tuesday when Marine 4 from the New York Fire Department responded to a report of a dog that was in distress in the Harlem River after somebody reportedly threw the dog off of a bridge, the FDNY said in a post on social media.

Several teenagers were rescued Wednesday from the Eau Claire River.
According to the Eau Claire Fire Department, the incident happened while the teens were tubing. They were found on scene clinging to a tree. It happened around 2:45 p.m. upstream from the Dewey Street Bridge.
Fire officials report none of the teens were wearing life jackets.

VIDEO: Boston firefighters battled a five-alarm fire inside multiple East Boston triple-decker homes Tuesday evening.
First responders rushed to the scene in the 300 block of Princeton Street amid temperatures in the low 90s. Video from Sky 5 showed smoke and flames pouring from what appeared to be a staircase leading to the roof of the home.

VIDEO: A volunteer firefighter is recovering from surgery after being injured while working a scene on I-40 Monday night. Captain Ted Presgraves with the Tennessee City Volunteer Fire Department suffered a leg injury after officials say a U-Haul driver plowed into their tanker near mile marker 155.

Green Bay firefighters are shining a light on people in the community who helped them through courageous acts this year. Six people were presented with citizen awards Tuesday night.
One was Nick Janco from Green Bay. He and another recipient of the award found a 15-year-old girl after she fell into a culvert along the Fox River Trail.

The Milwaukee Fire Department (MFD) responded to a fire at the former Northridge Mall building on Tuesday.
According to the MFD, the call came in after 5 p.m.
Due to the hot weather, MFD says it was hard to ventilate the building. The call was upgraded to the second alarm level.
An ambulance was also seen heading to the area.

A building in Columbus, Ohio, partially collapsed Monday afternoon while a firefighter was inside during an inspection.
No injuries were reported in the collapse, including to the firefighter. A business that operated on the ground floor, at 1032 East Long Street, was closed Monday. The owner of the business lived in a different part of the building, but was not inside when it happened, fire officials said.
