Two dogs saved after stove fire in Brown County, $20k in damages

Firefighters in Brown County saved two dogs after responding to a structure fire on Wednesday evening. According to a release from the Green Bay Metro Fire Department, around 8:15 p.m., dispatch received a report of a passerby that heard the fire alarms going off inside the building in the Village of Allouez.

Uber for EMS, Israeli-modeled program will be tested in Iowa

An Iowa pilot program plans to give two EMS providers $50,000 each to use an app to notify nearby first responders to quickly respond to an emergency before an ambulance can arrive. Madison Fire Department gives battery safety reminders after one catches fire at a UW-Madison dorm

The Madison Fire Department has battery safety reminders after a fire caused an evacuation at a UW-Madison residence hall Tuesday evening. Spokesperson Cynthia Schuster said the fire department responded to Cole Hall around 7:30 p.m. for a report of a battery fire in a dorm room. When firefighters arrived, a resident had already used a fire extinguisher from the common hallway to put out the fire.

One dead in village of Wausaukee fire

One person died in a fire in the Village of Wausaukee Monday night. Dispatchers were notified of a fire at an apartment building on Elizabeth Street at about 9:16 p.m. “The first thing was to evacuate and make sure everybody is evacuated from the other apartments. People were scattered all over,” Wausaukee Fire Chief Eric Edelbeck said.

VIDEO: 16-year-old boy injured during house fire in California, 1 other person sent to hospital

A 16-year-old boy was injured Tuesday night during a house fire in the Sunland-Tujunga area, authorities said. The fire was reported at around 9:16 p.m. at the home on Sherman Grove Avenue. When firefighters arrived, the fire was coming from the garage, exposing neighboring homes to flames. Firefighters found the boy outside with burns and injuries, the Los Angeles Fire Department said.

Firefighters worry about chemicals in their gear, but alternatives could present problems too

Firefighter Jason Burns appreciates the attention that firefighting foam has received recently because long term exposure to it has been linked to cancer. However, he says he’s rarely used firefighting foam in his nearly 20-year career. “I tend to focus on our gear because most fire departments aren’t using foam on a regular basis, whereas I’m using my gear, firefighters are using our gear 10-14 times a tour, which is what we call our day of work,” he said.

Small kitchen fire brings Onalaska Fire Department to St. Paul's Lutheran School

A fire in the kitchen at Onalaska's St. Paul Lutheran School showed the value of practicing fire drills according to a the Onalaska Fire Department. They were called to the school at 11:30 a.m. Monday morning for a fire alarm triggered by a stove fire, said Lt. Jeremy Southworth. By the time crews arrived about four minutes later, the school was being evacuated.

Oak Creek apartment fire; 1 suffered minor injuries

Firefighters on Monday night, Jan. 23 responded to the scene of an apartment fire near 20th Street and Timber Ridge Lane in Oak Creek. The call came in around 9:50 p.m. Upon arrival, crews reported fire and smoke showing from a lower-level apartment. The fire was placed under control and completely extinguished within 15 minutes of arrival by the fire department.
