La Crosse home heavily damaged in fire

PHOTOS: The cause of an early morning fire that caused major damage to a south side La Crosse home is still under investigation. Crews from the La Crosse Fire Department were sent to 344 28th St. South at 3:10 a.m. According to Battalion Chief Bee Xiong, crews were sent there while responding to another fire alarm.

Firefighter training program in Madison for teens helps spark the next generation of first responders

A training program for high schoolers interested in becoming first responders has been picking up steam over the last few years. First responders are in high demand across Wisconsin and many departments are in need of more firefighters and Emergency Medical Technicians. The NextGen Responders Academy at Madison College is working to train more students, encouraging them to join the field.

Ashland father-daughter duo ready to answer the call

Thirty years ago, Kevin Alajoki decided to become a firefighter because of a woman. His then-girlfriend’s uncle told Kevin, “If you want to impress her, you should become a firefighter.” So he did. Taking that chance paid off and has led him on a career of battling fires for more than two decades at the Ashland Fire Department, where he now is a captain.

1 dead in snowmobile accident on Hwy 47 north of Rhinelander

On Thursday, The Oneida County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call of a snowmobile accident near the intersection of Hwy 47 and Bridge Road in the town of Newbold. Upon arrival, deputies determined that a group of snowmobiles were crossing Hwy 47 from east to west. The last snowmobile in the group was then struck by a vehicle traveling south.

Multiple first responders assist with trapped driver after rollover crash in Canton

PHOTOS: First responders from multiple agencies responded to a rollover crash in northwestern Wisconsin after the driver became trapped in their truck. Deputies with the Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office say the incident happened around 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday in Canton. In the photos provided, the truck can be seen turned over in a ditch in snowy and ‘slippery’ conditions.

One person was taken into custody Thursday evening in connection with a massive structure fire inside a two-story apartment building in Westlake. Calls about the fire came in around 5:15 p.m. at a building located on the 2800 block of 7th Street, according to a news release from the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Sun Prairie firefighters battle duplex fire

Firefighters only needed five minutes to knock down the flames inside one unit of a Sun Prairie duplex and keep the blaze from causing too much damage to the other half of the home, the city fire department reported Thursday. The statement from the Sun Prairie Fire Dept. also credited a young resident of the second half of the duplex for getting a dog out of that home, while firefighters were able to go into the side where the fire started and rescue a cat.

8 without a home after fire in Fond du Lac

Firefighters in Fond du Lac County worked hard to extinguish flames at an apartment on Wednesday evening. According to a release, on January 25, 2023, around 7:30 p.m., Fond du Lac Fire & Rescue was sent to the 170 block of East Johnson Street for a report of a fire. Upon arrival, crews encountered smoke conditions and fire showing inside the rear window of the lower apartment.
