Firefighters in West Bend, Slinger performed live training over the weekend

The West Bend Fire Department performed vehicle extrication training and the Slinger Fire Department did a controlled burn of a building over the weekend, both highlighting the importance of using live, realworld conditions in the firefighting training process. The West Bend Fire Department performed extrication training at a Bob’s Main Street Auto & Towing lot on Decorah Road on Friday.

VIDEO: Large fire extinguished at historic apartment building in Iowa

Beaver Dam Fire Department reports busiest week in department's history

The Beaver Dam Fire Department had the busiest week in its 155 year history earlier this month, officials announced. Between April 9 and April 16, crews responded to 92 calls for service at an average of over 13 calls per day, officials said Sunday. The department is on track to respond to over 3,000 calls this year.

Township in Ohio repurposes fire hose into school safety locks

New Indiana law helps protect firefighters from toxic chemicals

A new law signed Thursday by Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb will help protect Hoosier firefighters from the toxic chemicals known as PFAS. But it stops short of actually banning cancer-causing compounds. House Bill 1219, which was passed unanimously at the state house, will require the monitoring of PFAS levels in firefighters' blood because the so-called "forever chemicals" have been linked to multiple cancers.

North Carolina firefighter will run for a full day to advocate for cancer screenings

VIDEO: Mikey Riley has been with the Asheville Fire Department for just over 15 years. Just within the past few years of his time there, Riley said he's been personally impacted by the loss of active and retired firefighters due to occupational cancer. The Asheville Fire Department has lost four active members in the last four to five years due to occupational cancer, according to Riley, which he plans to use as motivation on Saturday, April 22.
