Firefighters worked to keep a huge fire from spreading in Truro Friday morning after a house exploded. There were no reports of injuries, as the fire chief did not believe anyone was home at the time. The blast on First Light Lane shook houses in neighboring towns, people on social media reported. Video from the scene showed flames completely engulfing the home.

A new law signed Thursday by Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb will help protect Hoosier firefighters from the toxic chemicals known as PFAS. But it stops short of actually banning cancer-causing compounds. Two cats died after a lightning strike caused a home fire in Lodi Wednesday morning, according to the Lodi Area Fire Department. A news release said firefighters were called to a home on Chestnut Street at about 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. A employee from a bank down the road saw the smoke coming from the home and alerted authorities, according to a Lodi Fire Chief Nate Sievers.

The Beaver Dam Fire Department is highlighting the promotion of one of their own. Firefighter/Medic Josh Coffey has been promoted to the rank of lieutenant. He officially began his new role on Tuesday. Coffey, a native of Georgia, began his fire service career with the Butts County Fire Department. PHOTOS: Firefighters were called to fight a fire at an abandoned tavern in North Portland on Wednesday night. The call came in at about 7:30 p.m. The fire was at The Barn Tavern at 7421 North Denver Ave. According to Portland firefighters, the building was on their “unsafe building list” and there have been eight fires at the location in the last 12 months.

An Atlanta city council member is fighting to protect first responders who get hurt while choosing to respond to emergencies while off-duty. The Holmen Area Fire Department swore in its new Fire Chief on Tuesday, April 18. Ryan Ostreng has worked for eight different fire departments in Wisconsin and Minnesota, over his 26 years as a fireman.
