Beaver Dam Fire Department Firefighters Join Fight To Thrive Exercise Program

Members from the Beaver Dam Fire Department recently took part in a program to help improve firefighter health and fitness. It is called Fit To Thrive and is designed to get those in the firefighting industry be more active, more often so they can experience the benefits of regular exercise. Beaver Dam Fire Chief Michael Wesle says this opportunity was available to them through grant funding.

First responders in Fond du Lac County use 3 words to locate people in emergencies

Fond du Lac County is making use of new, clever technology to get first responders to the right location. The technology, called “what3words,” converts numeric GPS coordinates into words. The words are then decoded by first responders using the what3words app in the field. Fond du Lac County Communications Director Amy Haase says this eliminates the risk of typing in a wrong number for GPS coordinates in degrees, minutes and seconds or decimal degrees.

$100K Grant from We Energies Foundation to Help Wisconsin First Responders

VIDEO: The We Energies Foundation awarded $100,000 to help first responders across Wisconsin purchase life-saving equipment. Officials joined the North Shore Fire Department and several other police and fire departments on Thursday, Sept. 7 to show off their newly acquired safety tools. Those include hazardous gas detectors, AEDs, an electric vehicle emergency response plug, and a speed detection radar device.

An arson investigation is underway after a raging inferno tore through a mechanic shop in Miami on Friday morning. At 5:20 a.m., the City of Miami Department of Fire-Rescue responded to reports of a fire at the scene. Firefighters arrived to find a vehicle fire raging on the exterior of the mechanic shop located near the intersection of Northwest Seventh Avenue and 79th Street.

Belgium firefighters spend a week with California firefighters

Madison Fire: Eastside nursing home kitchen shut down after fire

The kitchen of a nursing home on Madison’s east side is shut down after a stovetop fire, the city’s fire department explained Wednesday. The kitchen fire was reported to Madison Fire Department around 5:10 a.m. Wednesday. Firefighters were told that the fire had already been put out while they were on their way to the 100 block of Belmont Road.

PHOTOS: A rapidly spreading fire consumed as many as six rowhomes near Patterson Park. SkyTeam 11, Baltimore's only news helicopter, reported that firefighters were called Wednesday afternoon to the 300 block of South Robinson Street. Baltimore City Fire Department said commanders on the scene found one two-story row home involved with flames eventually spreading to a total of six homes.

40 years in the making: City in Kansas recognizes first female firefighter

Rebecca (Downum) Chandler became Wichita’s first female firefighter in 1983. “It was a wonderful time. 9/11 first responders are still saving lives

VIDEO: New York and Nashville researchers studied blood cell mutations in 9/11 first responders and determined some cells were cloning out of control and causing cardiovascular disease. Thanks to this research, an exercise fanatic discovered he had underlying and extensive heart disease. Roger Grad exercises 90 minutes a day, five days a week.

Connecticut fire lieutenant shaves mullet grown out for 798 days for charity

VIDEO: Fairfield firefighters gathered Thursday night to shave a mullet for a good cause. The mullet had been growing out for 798 days by Lt. Lee Corbo. Corbo decided to create a fundraiser and shave his hair in support of the Tommy Fund for Childhood Cancer. He is also supporting a Norwalk firefighter who has been diagnosed with cancer.

Funds From Fire Dues Program Awarded to Southern Door Volunteer Fire Department

Fire damages Door County resort

A resort in Door County will be closed for the foreseeable future after a fire. According to our Green Bay affiliate, the fire started around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday afternoon at Rowley’s Bay Resort in Ellison Bay. All fire departments from Door County were called out there. A local fire chief said it was a challenging fire to fight because the building has so many additions, which means additional layers.

Two people, including one firefighter, injured in Green Bay apartment fire

PHOTO: A firefighter and a civilian were injured in an apartment fire in Green Bay on Tuesday night, according to Green Bay Metro Fire Department Chief Matthew Knott. Knott tells NBC 26 the firefighter was treated and released for smoke inhalation. Knott said the fire was at a 24-unit apartment building on 1830 August St.

Labor Day wildland fire scorches nine acres in Waupaca County

VIDEO: A wildland fire burned nine acres of prairie grass fields and pines in Waupaca County. The Waupaca Area Fire District was dispatched to the fire just after 2 p.m. on Labor Day on State Highway 22, south of West Road in the town of Dayton. Firefighters from multiple departments, along with the DNR, were on scene for more than five hours, suppressing the fire until it was contained.

VIDEO: 1 person injured, boat sinks after being engulfed in flames off of New York fuel dock

One person was injured after a boat caught fire on City Island Tuesday just before 6 p.m. The small powerboat sunk in the Long Island Sound shortly after firefighters were able to get the blaze under control. The boat was just off the fuel dock at 673 City Island Avenue in the Bronx when it went up in flames.
