Arizona fire department gives an inside look at mountain rescues

VIDEO: Arizona’s hiking trails can be a hotspot for tourists, but hiking them in the heat of summer can be deadly. Every year, the Scottsdale Fire Department rescues nearly 400 people from hiking trails. To help spread awareness about these rescues and how important it is to be prepared, Scottsdale Fire and Arizona’s Family teamed up to conduct a simulated rescue.

Wisconsin firefighter breaks world record for marathon time carrying 100-pound rucksack

Downtown Pulaski fire caused by tree falling on power line

VIDEO: The Pulaski fire chief confirms a fire that destroyed two downtown businesses and several apartments was caused by a tree falling on a power line. Pulaski Tri-County Fire Chief James Styczynski says a crew was cutting down the tree when it fell on the wires, sparking the fire. At least 20 departments responded to the fire, including Pulaski, Green Bay, Howard, Seymour, and Suamico.

A Utah family is grateful to be alive after their houseboat caught fire at Lake Powell. Maddy Tolman said her family was on board for only about 45 minutes when they heard a loud boom. “We heard a big boom! Not knowing what it was, we went to investigate. We found the motor on the houseboat had exploded, and caught on fire,” Tolman said.

Colorado city hosting 3,800 honored guests at Fallen Fire Fighter Memorial ceremony

Thousands of people are en route to Colorado Springs for this weekend’s annual Fallen Fire Fighter Memorial ceremony. ”It's the largest year we've ever had,” said Colorado Springs Firefighters Local 5 President, Curt Crumb. This year 572 names will be added to the walls of the memorial. Due to COVID-caused cancellations from previous years, names this year are a combination of 2021 and 2022.

Suspect in Oregon steals Portland Fire & Rescue boat, escapes down river

Wisconsin Public Service Foundation awards $2K grant to Merrill Fire Department to purchase a new AED

The Merrill Fire Department has announced that we are recipients of a 2023 Rewarding Responder Grant offered through the Wisconsin Public Service Foundation. The $2,000 grant will be used to purchase an Automated External Defibrillator, or AED, for one of the department’s command vehicles. Having an AED on emergency vehicles is quite common and the Merrill Fire Department’s command vehicles are out on the road often and can respond to any sort of call for service in the community.

FEMA funding study to help firefighters prevent injuries

Bridget Melton, Ed.D., professor in the Department of Health Sciences and Kinesiology at Georgia Southern University, is part of a team awarded $1.1 million from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to assist with a study aimed to promote wellness in firefighters and first responders. Melton is collaborating with researchers at the University of Kentucky as part of a three-year study that builds on a decade of foundational work by Melton and the Tactical Athlete Initiative team in the Waters College of Health Professions, College of Education and the Jiann-Ping Hsu College of Public Health.

He was born in Elgin, IL on February 15, 1928 to Ernest and Evelyn (Beyer) Carlson. Dick proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1947-1949. He did the Honor Flight to Washington D.C.
