An investigation is underway by local, state, and federal authorities after one man is killed in a fire Tuesday morning at a Tomah motel. Fire Chief Tim Adler said firefighters were sent to the Daybreak Inn motel at 215 E. Clifton Street in Tomah at 9:43 a.m. He said the initial call from dispatch said that there was a single male occupant still inside the building.

Breast cancer awareness month is October and is still a few weeks away but the fight against breast cancer is a year-round battle. The Rhinelander Fire Department is raising money to fight the cause. The department is selling T-shirts, long sleeved T-shirts and hoodies to raise money for local families directly affected by breast cancer.

Britain’s Prince William visited FDNY firefighters at the firehouse near ground zero during his trip to New York City on Tuesday. Sandy Springs is changing the inspection process for apartment communities. A new code of ordinances is requiring apartment complexes to hire a third party to inspect units annually. Before updating regulations, only 20% of apartment units were required to be inspected each year. The new policy will help the city better address water and structural damage, mold, fire hazards and other issues — particularly in older complexes that don’t have sprinkler systems for apartment fires, a statement said.
