Part of St. Augustine’s Atlantic Beach & Tennis Club was destroyed in a fire early Tuesday morning.
The club’s owner, who lives right behind the club, said he learned of the fire when he woke up at 1:45 a.m. and saw flames shooting through the roof of his business.
“I couldn’t believe it,” Bill Brothers said.

PHOTOS: Before anyone knew it, the school was engulfed in flame.
Three men driving near Center Grove High School noticed the strange, yellow glow in the late hours of Oct. 31, 1952. They found the school on fire, with both the main school building ablaze and spreading to the gymnasium. Witnesses say the flames shot 150 feet into the air.

VIDEO: Firefighters across Wood County spent most of last week battling wildfires and this week's rain was a big relief.
The Pittsville Fire Department said they first received word of a fire last Monday and a drone operator they worked with happened to spot it nearby.
From there, dozers had to brought in by the DNR because of how dry the ground was with the continued drought.

VIDEO: A semi-truck driver whose cab burst into flames at a Verona gas station was able to escape the fire even though his driver-side door would not open.
Verona Fire Chief Dan Machotka said the Iowa resident's semi-truck had an apparent mechanical issue Friday, so the man drove the truck into a Kwik Trip's lot at 2145 County Road PB.

VIDEO: Firefighters battled a large fire at a vacant mill building in Naugatuck Monday night and demolition crews have begun to knock it down.
Officials said the fire started just after 6 p.m. Monday in the area of 200 Water St. and flames were found coming from the roof of the building, which is actually five separate buildings that are connected.

An unusually high number of City ambulances were closed during Sunday’s midnight shift, nine out of 21 ambulances were offline due to low staffing. The Honolulu Emergency Services Director Dr. Jim Ireland said sick leave due to COVID-19 was among the reasons. Saturday evening’s EMS briefing included plans to cover nine ambulance units that would be closed for the shift beginning at midnight Sunday.

PHOTOS: Kingsport's first fire truck has been restored back to its original condition.
The 1917 American LaFrance fire engine is dubbed "Old Hul-dy.”
It went into service one hundred and six years ago and was Kingsport's only fire truck at the time.
Firefighters had to hand crank it to start the truck.

VIDEO: Crews were able to put out a house fire near Cadott Monday, but several family pets were lost.
Cadott Fire Chief Rick Sommerfield told News 18 a passerby called in the fire just before noon. The house is located on 270th Street, north of 120th Avenue in the township of Goetz.
Sommerfield said no one was home at the time, but several dogs and a cat were lost in the fire.

In a fire safety wake-up call for Racine residents, a garage fire broke out at 1720 Quincy Ave. on Saturday morning, causing an estimated $25,000 in damage. The Racine Fire Department was quick to respond, effectively controlling the blaze that was likely ignited by a stray ember from a homemade fire pit.

According to authorities, the Superior Fire Department was dispatched to the report of a structure fire at 1917 E. 6th Street in Superior just after 2:00 a.m. Sunday.
When fire crews arrived on scene, they found a passenger vehicle fire had spread to the exterior siding and into the attic of a two-story residential structure.

VIDEO: A four-alarm fire that sparked in Downtown Tulsa on Saturday damaged restaurants, apartments and some businesses, officials say.
Two downtown Tulsa restaurants and bars burned, gutting an entire building with apartments on the second floor.
Small puffs of smoke still rose from the ruins of the building, 24 hours after the fire started.

Ronny J. Coleman, a revered nationally-recognized fire service leader for half a century, who served as California State Fire Marshal and as the chair of the CSFA Volunteer Committee, passed away Sept. 19 in Sacramento. Chief Coleman had been the Fire Chief of the City of Fullerton Fire Department when he was appointed in 1992 by Governor Pete Wilson to the position of State Fire Marshal, a position he held for 8 years.

Two more firefighters have died from illnesses related to their work at the World Trade Center during and after the 9/11 terror attacks, officials announced on Sunday. Their deaths bring the overall toll linked to 9/11-related diseases among members of the Fire Department of the City of New York to 343, which is equal to the number of FDNY members who died on the day of the attacks, the department said.

PHOTOS: Polk County Fire Rescue teamed up with A Safe Haven for Newborns foundation to encourage the safe harboring of babies throughout the county.
To help get the information out that every fire station is a designated Safe Haven location where newborn babies can be dropped off, stickers were plastered on the fire department's vehicles that hit the roads every day.
