Teaming up with National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), firefighters are educating the public on unattended cooking.

A large cloud of smoke billowed above Mission Bay on Monday afternoon after a building caught on fire at Campland by the Bay.
The two-alarm fire began in Adventure Water Sports, a recreation rental business near the beach of the campground located at 2211 Pacific Beach Drive. By 2:25 p.m., San Diego Fire-Rescue firefighters on the ground were gaining control over the flames, which had engulfed the structure.

VIDEO: Portland police responded to eight people who overdosed on Monday morning in the Pearl District, near the North Park Blocks. Officers said the people ingested a powder likely laced with fentanyl.

A nationwide test of the emergency and wireless alert systems will be conducted Wednesday at 2:20 p.m. ET, when a message will be sent to all cellphones, TVs and radios.

VIDEO: The Watertown Fire Department is crediting an employee of a business in the city with helping prevent a fire that caused more than $100,000 worth of damage on Friday afternoon from spreading even further.
The worker had been using a fire extinguisher to tamp down the flames until firefighters could reach the business, which is in the 1200 block of American Way.

A 61-year-old man is identified as the person killed in a fire at a Tomah motel earlier this month.
On Friday morning, Fire Chief Tim Adler released the identity of the person who died in the September 19 fire at the Daybreak Motel at 215 E. Clifton Street.
Brian Mark Mallory was pronounced dead at the scene.

A Cincinnati firefighter is the first woman in the history of the Cincinnati Fire Department to be certified as a bomb technician.
Firefighter Nykeba Banks joins a select few as a prestigious United States Public Safety Bomb Technician, the fire department said in a news release Monday.
She received her certification from the Hazardous Devices School at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Ala.

VIDEO: Flashing lights and sirens are constant in Adam Yaresh’s life. However, Saturday night, the lights and sounds he experienced were there to save him, though he’s used to it being the other way around.
Yaresh has been with the Brookfield Fire Department for the last six years. Before that, he worked on a volunteer basis with the Ixonia Fire Department and then in a full-time capacity with the Watertown Fire Department.

The man who shot into a southeast Oak Cliff apartment in 2021, severing a gas line and causing an explosion that injured several people, including Dallas firefighters, was sentenced to 12 years in prison on Wednesday, according to the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office.
Phillip Dankins, 30, was sentenced to 12 years on a drug charge and 12 years on a charge of unlawful possession of a firearm, the DA’s office said.
