One California City Explores Regulating Lithium Batteries Used in EVs

Concerns about explosions, fires and toxic gas have prompted San Diego officials to begin crafting proposed laws to regulate the storage and disposal of lithium-ion batteries, which power electric cars, scooters, laptops, smartphones and other devices. The legislation would also impose new limits on where large-scale lithium battery storage facilities can be located.

Disaster response team in Kansas expects certification from World Health Organization

VIDEO: There is a small group of organizations in the United States who can say they have a stamp of approval from the World Health Organization (WHO). Joining that circle could be Heart to Heart International, a Lenexa-based nonprofit. They respond and send aid to areas of disaster. Whether it's a hurricane, an earthquake or war, their full-scale mobile health facility would have to be ready to roll within 48 hours for the WHO's approval.

Gas leak forces evacuation of Madison business

Live-Fire Training In Weyauwega

Wausau Fire Department making community and kids aware of fire prevention

A few seconds could be the difference between a safe escape or a tragedy during a fire, and fire prevention week is one step to ensure that people are educated about fire safety. Fire Prevention Week is observed each year around the week of Oct. 8, in commemoration of The Great Chicago Fire. According to the National Fire Protection Association, the leading cause of house fires is unattended cooking in the kitchen, and that is the focus of this year’s fire prevention week.

VIDEO: Sport gas balloon catches fire after crashing into power lines in Texas

A gas balloon involved in an international race burst into flames Monday evening after crashing into a power line structure in Kaufman County. Kaufman County officials said the balloon came down off U.S. Highway 175, near Crandall, just after 7:15 p.m. It first crashed into high-powered transmission lines and then distribution lines before catching fire, said Kaufman County emergency manager Steve Howie.

South Carolina firefighters urge 'Stand By Your Pan' with funny, life-saving music video

City in Michigan had its own fire on the same day as the Great Chicago Fire

At 2:30 a.m., the fire department responded to a minor electrical fire at the Hilton Garden Inn near Howell Avenue and College Avenue. The hotel was evacuated, and no one was injured. Then, at 3 a.m., they responded to 34th Street and Highland Avenue for a garage fire.

VIDEO: A dive team searched under Milwaukee's Hoan Bridge – but nothing was found – after officials say someone reported a potentially endangered child Saturday, Oct. 7. According to the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office, deputies were first dispatched to the area around 4:15 p.m. Authorities said it was reported that a child "in the company of an adult, may have been endangered by the adult.

Firefighters with one Alabama fire department must now pass annual physical test

Firefighters with Decatur Fire & Rescue will soon be tested on whether they can swing a sledgehammer, drag tires, climb and descend a tower, do a pipe crawl and five other challenges meant to test their readiness for the job. The Personnel Board approved last week Fire Chief Tracy Thornton's proposal to implement a new fitness test that firefighters must pass to remain on active duty.
