'He was definitely shocked': Semi-truck driver escapes flames in Verona

VIDEO: A semi-truck driver whose cab burst into flames at a Verona gas station was able to escape the fire even though his driver-side door would not open. Verona Fire Chief Dan Machotka said the Iowa resident's semi-truck had an apparent mechanical issue Friday, so the man drove the truck into a Kwik Trip's lot at 2145 County Road PB.

Eau Claire Fire & Rescue looking to hire even more firefighters

Demolition begins after large fire at vacant mill building in Connecticut

South Carolina fire department to pilot new mental health app

COVID among reasons nine EMS ambulances in Hawaii closed over the weekend

An unusually high number of City ambulances were closed during Sunday’s midnight shift, nine out of 21 ambulances were offline due to low staffing. The Honolulu Emergency Services Director Dr. Jim Ireland said sick leave due to COVID-19 was among the reasons. Saturday evening’s EMS briefing included plans to cover nine ambulance units that would be closed for the shift beginning at midnight Sunday.

Tennessee city's first fire truck restored to original condition

PHOTOS: Kingsport's first fire truck has been restored back to its original condition. The 1917 American LaFrance fire engine is dubbed "Old Hul-dy.” It went into service one hundred and six years ago and was Kingsport's only fire truck at the time. Firefighters had to hand crank it to start the truck.

Crews put out house fire near Cadott, several pets lost

VIDEO: Crews were able to put out a house fire near Cadott Monday, but several family pets were lost. Cadott Fire Chief Rick Sommerfield told News 18 a passerby called in the fire just before noon. The house is located on 270th Street, north of 120th Avenue in the township of Goetz. Sommerfield said no one was home at the time, but several dogs and a cat were lost in the fire.

Racine garage fire caused by ember from homemade fire pit, results in $25,000 damage

Occupants safe after Superior structure fire

According to authorities, the Superior Fire Department was dispatched to the report of a structure fire at 1917 E. 6th Street in Superior just after 2:00 a.m. Sunday. When fire crews arrived on scene, they found a passenger vehicle fire had spread to the exterior siding and into the attic of a two-story residential structure.

Cleanup begins after 4-alarm fire damages restaurants, apartments and businesses in downtown Tulsa

Ronny J. Coleman, past California State Fire Marshal and CSFA Volunteer Committee Chair passes

Coleman, a revered nationally-recognized fire service leader for half a century, who served as California State Fire Marshal and as the chair of the CSFA Volunteer Committee, passed away Sept. 19 in Sacramento. Chief Coleman had been the Fire Chief of the City of Fullerton Fire Department when he was appointed in 1992 by Governor Pete Wilson to the position of State Fire Marshal, a position he held for 8 years.

9/11-related illnesses have now killed same number of FDNY firefighters as day of attacks: 'Our hearts break'

Two more firefighters have died from illnesses related to their work at the World Trade Center during and after the 9/11 terror attacks, officials announced on Sunday. Their deaths bring the overall toll linked to 9/11-related diseases among members of the Fire Department of the City of New York to 343, which is equal to the number of FDNY members who died on the day of the attacks, the department said.

Fire Rescue department in Florida promotes safe haven for newborns with new apparatus stickers

Ambulance manufacturing delays impacting Milwaukee County fire departments

A Scripps National investigation highlights a national shortage of ambulance chassis is impacting first responders and in Milwaukee County, the manufacturing issues extend further than just ambulances. “Delays in getting products delivered, getting replacement parts and building fire apparatus has been a challenge,” Assistant Chief Schuyler Belott with the Milwaukee Fire Department said.

Railroads work to make sure firefighters can quickly look up what is on a train after a derailment

In the chaos after a Norfolk Southern train careened off the tracks and caught fire in eastern Ohio in February, it took roughly 45 minutes for firefighters to learn exactly which chemicals were involved. Now the railroad industry is trying to ensure that never happens again. Ever since that Feb. 3 derailment prompted concerns about rail safety nationwide, the major railroads have redoubled their efforts to make sure that more and more first responders can immediately look up the contents of any freight train.
