Central Illinois fire department may start charging for non-emergency services

One Central Illinois fire department is considering the implementation of fees for one of its services. The Village of Savoy is set to vote on a new ordinance that would specifically affect non-emergency calls at assisted living facilities within the village. The non-emergency service would primarily be lift assistance.

Wisconsin firefighters offer training for home-schooled students

The Superior Fire Department will offer fire prevention training for home-schooled children in first through fifth grade from 1-3 p.m. Oct. 17, Oct. 18 and Oct. 19. Flames consume barn near Ixonia, dramatic video shows

VIDEO: The night sky turned orange around a barn north of Ixonia on Sunday night as flames consumed the structure and firefighters battled to keep them contained, video from the scene showed. “I looked out and I didn’t see anything but I came out of the house and I saw this whole end of the barn on fire and by the time we got moving, it was too late,” said Bill Couch, the property owner.

Mequon company’s fire blankets are a game-changer in suppressing vehicle fires

Madison Fire Department firefighters clean up fuel spill at northside gas station

VIDEO: Firefighters had to clean up a fuel spill on Madison's north side Monday after a driver backed their car into a fuel pump and drove off. Another customer went to use the fuel pump after the first driver left and reportedly found a leak coming from the base of the pump; a delivery driver used the emergency stop and was able to cut off the leak before firefighters arrived at the Kwik Trip on Northport Drive.

VIDEO: Fire at recreation rental business sends smoke plume above San Diego

A large cloud of smoke billowed above Mission Bay on Monday afternoon after a building caught on fire at Campland by the Bay. The two-alarm fire began in Adventure Water Sports, a recreation rental business near the beach of the campground located at 2211 Pacific Beach Drive. By 2:25 p.m., San Diego Fire-Rescue firefighters on the ground were gaining control over the flames, which had engulfed the structure.

Mass overdose at Oregon park the most the local fire department has seen during a single call, official says

A nationwide emergency alert will be sent to all U.S. cellphones Wednesday

A nationwide test of the emergency and wireless alert systems will be conducted Wednesday at 2:20 p.m. ET, when a message will be sent to all cellphones, TVs and radios. Fire does six-digit damage to business, Watertown Fire Department says

One person taken to hospital in Verona duplex fire

Update: Victim in fatal Tomah fire identified

A 61-year-old man is identified as the person killed in a fire at a Tomah motel earlier this month. On Friday morning, Fire Chief Tim Adler released the identity of the person who died in the September 19 fire at the Daybreak Motel at 215 E. Clifton Street. Brian Mark Mallory was pronounced dead at the scene.

Ohio fire department announces its first certified female bomb tech

A Cincinnati firefighter is the first woman in the history of the Cincinnati Fire Department to be certified as a bomb technician. Firefighter Nykeba Banks joins a select few as a prestigious United States Public Safety Bomb Technician, the fire department said in a news release Monday. She received her certification from the Hazardous Devices School at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Ala.

Hispanic Heritage Month: Mentoring the next generation of Arizona firefighters

Massachusetts DFS Adds Mammograms to Firefighter Cancer Screening Program

Massachusetts State Fire Marshal Jon M. Davine said that the Department of Fire Services has added mammograms to the complement of free, early-detection cancer screenings available to Massachusetts firefighters. “Firefighters are at greater risk of developing cancer, developing it at younger ages, and receiving a late diagnosis than the public they protect,” said State Fire Marshal Davine.

Firefighters in Indiana rescue police drone that got stuck on construction crane

The crew was asked to get the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department drone after it landed on the structure near the “Rise on Meridian” apartments construction site on South Meridian Street on Saturday.
