Railroads work to make sure firefighters can quickly look up what is on a train after a derailment

In the chaos after a Norfolk Southern train careened off the tracks and caught fire in eastern Ohio in February, it took roughly 45 minutes for firefighters to learn exactly which chemicals were involved. Now the railroad industry is trying to ensure that never happens again. Ever since that Feb. 3 derailment prompted concerns about rail safety nationwide, the major railroads have redoubled their efforts to make sure that more and more first responders can immediately look up the contents of any freight train.

Amazon Adds Alexa Emergency Assist to Echo Devices

Norway introduces new fire chief and declares new Norway Fire Department 'ready to go'

No extra cost to Chilton taxpayers to build new police and fire stations, says Mayor

PHOTO: Wednesday was a big day for Chilton, as the city held a ceremony to cut the ribbon on a new fire station and break ground on a new police station. Chilton Mayor Tom Reinl says he was pleased with the results of both projects, which he says won't cost any extra to the city's taxpayers. Mayor Reinl says the new stations will provide more room for both the city's fire and police departments, which he says were in desperate need of a new space.

VIDEO: Crews in North Carolina investigating cause of structure fire

The Charlotte Fire Department is working to determine the cause of a structure fire in north Charlotte Thursday morning. The incident occurred just before 4 a.m. on Keswick Avenue right off North Tryon Street. Fire crews said the structure was a two-story house that was under construction. “A fire can spread quickly in an open building before it gets dried in with drywall, so a small amount of fire can spread very quickly with exposed wood,” Battalion Chief Blake Redden said.

Wausau Fire Department receives CAAS accreditation, becomes only fourth accredited ambulance in state

Investigation underway into man killed in fire at Tomah motel

An investigation is underway by local, state, and federal authorities after one man is killed in a fire Tuesday morning at a Tomah motel. Fire Chief Tim Adler said firefighters were sent to the Daybreak Inn motel at 215 E. Clifton Street in Tomah at 9:43 a.m. He said the initial call from dispatch said that there was a single male occupant still inside the building.

Rhinelander Fire Department selling breast cancer awareness apparel
