Colorado: Denver's oldest serving fire station home to first Black firefighters

PHOTOS: It's known to those who served there as the "Pride of the Points." Denver Fire Station 3. The oldest Denver firehouse still in service, built in 1931. And the only station where Black firefighters were assigned until the Denver Fire Department desegregated in 1957. Today the children of these earliest public servants have a deep appreciation for Station 3's commitment to excellence, and the pride that came in serving Denver's Five Points community.

Fire suppression foam 'inadvertently' released around one of United Airlines' hangars at Texas airport

Howard apartment fire displaces one family

Family inspired to push for new Colorado license plate design after firefighter’s death

A Colorado woman and her family have made a petition to create a fallen firefighter specialty license plate in honor of her husband who died in 2021. Yuma firefighter Darcy Stallings was responding to a fire in October 2021 when he was involved in a deadly car crash. Darcy was described as a highly respected firefighter and a person who loved every minute of his job.

One Washington county now using nurses for non-emergency medical calls to 911

Snohomish County has a new tool for 911 response that will help free up emergency responders. It’s called the Snohomish County Nurse Navigation Program. A nurse will now handle some medical calls. If a 911 call comes in that’s considered a non-emergency, the caller will be directed to a nurse who will help them decide the best course of action, such as a virtual visit with a doctor or a trip to a clinic or urgent care center.

Kansas: Stolen Jackie Robinson statue found 'dismantled and burned'

PHOTOS: Police in Kansas are searching for a suspect after a bronze statue of Jackie Robinson was vandalized and stolen last week. The dismantled remains of the artwork were found Tuesday morning by the Wichita Fire Department when it responded to a small trash fire. Wichita police said Monday it had located the truck that was believed to be used in the theft of the artwork, but added that detectives and officers were still searching for the people responsible.

Budget cuts in Marshfield impact fire department hiring process

Budget cuts in Marshfield are holding up the fire department's hiring process once again. The Marshfield City Council has been dealing with budget shortfalls over the past few years, and because of that refilling empty positions within the city has been made harder. "Back in 2021, we had 12 people per shift, and then due to some budget issues, we went back to 11," said Jody Clements, Interim Fire Chief, Marshfield Fire Department.
