Janesville first responders continue to work despite subzero temperatures

Janesville firefighters and police officers continue to patrol the streets despite the record-setting low temperatures. Glen Hageman, who has spent close to two decades of winters as a police officer, says working through the cold is part of the job. "We still have crimes being committed," he said. "Criminals still think like criminals.

La Crosse firefighters battle house fire on Winnebago Street

PHOTO: Crews from the La Crosse Fire Department spent at least an hour battling a fire on the 600 block of Winnebago Street on Wednesday night. The department's Facebook page posted several photos from the blaze. According to fire officials, everyone got out of the house safely. Temperatures in La Crosse late Wednesday night hovered around 18 degrees below zero, which a wind chill factor of minus 30.

Authorities say the fire started at a home near 116th St. and W. Ryan Rd. around 1 a.m. The Franklin Fire Department said crews had problems with engines freezing.

One person was taken to the hospital early Wednesday morning, Jan. 30 following a house fire in Racine. The fire broke out around 1:22 a.m. at a home on Saxony Drive. The owner and lone occupant of the home called 911 to report the fire. He later reported that he was alerted to the fire by his dog. Fire Department Paramedics treated and transported the owner to Ascension All Saints Racine for his injuries sustained due to the fire.

Georgia community watches on as fallen battalion chief returns home

'The reality is no firefighter wants to file this claim'; Presumptive health bill heard in Montana

For years lawmakers have tried to pass a bill in the state legislature that would allow presumptive care for firefighters. Each year that bill is denied and for the most part it comes down to funding. As the law stands now, it's up to the firefighter to prove his illness came while on the job. If this bill passes, it puts the burden of proof on the insurance carrier instead of the individual.

MedicOne contract stands, litigation still possible in Tennessee

Pleas for the Unicoi County Commission to redo its advertisement for bids on a four-year ambulance service contract awarded to MedicOne Medical Response in December fell short Monday on a split commission vote that hinged on the possibility of $900,000 lawsuit. With commissioners Matthew Rice, Jamie Harris, Glenn White, Stephen Hendrix and John Mosley opposed, commissioners Todd Wilcox, Marie Rice and Jason Harris in favor and Commission Chairman Loren Thomas abstaining, a motion to put the contract back out for bids failed by a vote of 5 to 3.

Mother surrenders newborn twins to firefighters in California

A young woman who recently gave birth to twins arrived at Fire Station 302 in Hesperia and surrendered her children under the states “Safe-Haven Law”. It happened at about 8:40 pm, on January 28, 2019. San Bernardino County Fire department officials said, a woman showed up at the station and gave possession of the newborn twins to the crew.

Car plunges 9 stories inside Florida parking garage and burns as owner watches, reports say
